Sorry again, I wasn't trying to offend. Something about the quotation mark before declaring that Wicca is not "over a hundred years old" just threw me off, made me think you were referencing my own mention of "one hundred years" in my post.
there are a few paths to Wicca, Gardener is credited with the revival of wicca in the 50's when the law was lifted in England. there are MANY paths, no one is correct, but Gardener was born a witch, his family was witches, he didn't convert nor make the whole thing up. this is his path, others may differ slightly, but the wiccan reed will remain the same. even things like the 3 fold law, some follow some don't. i learned from Buckland's books who was trained under Gardener, and Cunningham. i've widened my views and have gone beyond Gardenian wicca, but i loved that path, it made me feel rather complete, it still does actually.
new question based on posts..why are you guys arguing on age..it is perfectly bound in my mind that all religions are a mystery..so how would we knw the truth??
I disagree with many teachings of wicca but the I do like the three fold law. I suggest you keep in mind the teachings of wicca and other crafts to form your own path.
Wow,Nikoshema! That is some statement!
Gardner did not "revive" Wicca. He took some of the rituals of ancient beliefs, and "blended" them into a modern form of witchcraft. He did not come from a family of witches! And he certainly was not born a witch. He was taught by a witch. And initiated into the craft by a witch.
No matter what you may be told, or read, Wicca did not exist before Gardner. Witchcraft did, but not Wicca. Gardner merely took the old word for "wise", wicce, and called his new movement Wica, one C.
Alex Sanders added the other C.
Further. Raymond Buckland never met Gardner in his life! He had some letters from Gardner, even spoke on the telephone with Gardner. But in no way was he ever "trained" by Gardner. Very few ever were!
What Buckland did was to take Wicca to America, where he "claimed" to be the American "representative" of Gardner; mainly to sell his own books!
Be careful what you read. Most books are written for profit.
When I first joined this site I was wiccan hence the name, however I too view myself as thelemite, however not in any orthodox sort of way I don't perform rituals as often as I should. Wicca is a beatiful religion but despite every author claiming there is no laws that come with it the wiccan rede has the "an if it harm none, do what ye will" what I suggest you do is forget about religion all together, seek your own spirituality and then once you have your own beliefs about this universe and your own routine and you still want to have religion find one which suits your routine and beliefs don't let some guy (Be it gardner, cunningham, buckland or even aleister crowley!) tell you what to believe until you are sure yourself.
