Regarding the topic: Okay. Let's put the topic another way: the author wants to establish a connection with the dead, no matter what goals she pursues. It is important to understand that the space of Death needs to be replenished with resources. It is extremely important for this area to "retain" energy - information formations of the "Soul" type in its zone of influence for as long as possible. And so that these formations do not disintegrate into their constituent components, they need a "binding". Using the example of Christianity: there is such a thing as repentance before Death. That's right, in this way a person is freed from "attachment" to the unfinished and cuts off his channel for attachment to the living. But there really is another "firmware" for the system to work, there is a commemoration during certain periods of afterlife. And then the connection with the deceased is not interrupted and he "hangs" in the space of Death for an indefinite period. He can forgive everyone, but they didn't forgive him :)
What you recommend to the author, roughly speaking, is the commemoration of her pet. In my opinion, the author recently lost her pet and she decided to contact him in this way purely because of a hothead, but there is no place for recklessness in magic. Over time, in the afterlife, these formations become more dense and actually become independent and already self-sufficient, acquiring connections with the living. Therefore, by performing the commemoration, the author will strengthen and form the "ghost", but when the "ghost of the dog" is fed enough, he will want more and from whom will he draw this energy? But there is another detail here... the "ghost" is a dog.. she does not have all the energy centers inherent in a deceased person, she does not have the understanding to bring a thought to someone at the request or to do something on the orders of the magician (author).
