I dont tell anyone. My best friend is a christian and is very religious. She thinks Wicca is evil and stupid. I was going to tell her but then I went to her Christian church school for a couple hours and they talked about how much they hated it. After that I didnt want to tell her. Im pretty sure my family will think its just stupid.
I can't tell almost anybody but a few friends, cause the people surrounding me don't believe in anything! And if I say what I've seen and done so far they will say I'm mentally ill and take me to a psychiatrist.
I guess people fear the unknown, consenquently people may fear you for your believes. They may think that since you do magic you have some kind of control over them and fear that. Let's be realistic people still have many prejudies about magic, and you won't change that by telling everybody you practice it. Yes-It's terrible that we have to hide. If you feel that you should tell them, well do it, but please be tactful.
wicca as religion is rare in my country but not its magic...,so I keep it hiding cause they would probably call me insane and laught...The brains of people where I am are so limited so I would probably remain in history as "Miladin Vjestac" and they would scare litle kids with storys about me :).So yes if I want normal life I have to hide, and its good to know that you are different!
I refuse to hide my beliefs any longer.I live in what some call "the getto",in houston texas. I call it "Little mexico". My neighbors knowing I am a keeps the mean kids from messing with my little one, lol!and keeps one kid from breaking into my house. most of my family are dead.my x MIl I want her to know, all her unchristian/christian ways... has made a major impact on my beliefs. One day I must Thank her for that!
I use to hide it when i worked in home health. Intexas the bosses here can fire you for any reason they see fit. and make up any lies they want.
I think I've learned to have a don't ask don't tell look on things. If I speak of a higher being, I say God. Most people here in the bible belt take it for what it sounds like to them, and after all it's not as if the concepts are separated. And yes, I believe spreading what I learn is important, but again I'm in the bible belt... People's faith is set in stone here. I know there are practicioners here, but few and far between. I was speaking with a friend of mine last week, and I asked her if she knew about Magick, and made clear she understood I was not talking about illusions, or parlor tricks. She said she knew, it was evil, and she didn't believe in it. I didn't even point out the obvious contradiction, I dropped. She's closed. She has 20+ years of doctrine instilled, and for the most part, it's okay doctrine. It's up to her if she wants to look past it.
Perhaps things like this are how I found myself here.
i have been fortunate to grow up around all of majik... so yes, my parents know. but i would never be able to let them know how far i have actually come... my mother prefers to know on some level but not to know all the details... as for the "random every day person" if they ask i will tell them... but also i am very delicate with my words. "the comprehension of the human mind is exactly that... only the enlightened can understand the inner working of the enlightened" Jesero, Queen of the gypsies, 1991

Where I live they can fire you at will...meaning they can fire you for looking at someone cross eye'd if they want to. I was talking to my mom one day and asked her if she believed in pyschics and she said no thats just a bunch of BS. So I won't tell her what I do...She's the only family I have left. As far as friends there are a few hat know and don't think any different of me because of it. I have some very cool friends.
I fought for my beliefs in my childhood.. ^_^, so I never hided it.. nor I need to.. it is very obvious.. *_* that I am just against "human race" when it comes to beliefs or religions.. according to my grandpa.. I am a demon.. so.. no worries..hahahaha.. I talk about it freely.. ^_^ but then again.. I am plainly agnostic.. nothing out of the norm.
You guys have all the luck. :( The rest of my family are moving back to England in 2 weeks time because of something to do with my dad's business having to be re-established in England and I have to BOARD in my school. It sounds fine but do you have any idea how hard it'll be hiding a tonne of magick books and artefacts in a dorm full of skeptical scientific child prodiges!!?? It's only a matter of time before they'll discover them and I'll then be regarded as being evil and/or, wierd and/or stupid!! I'll probably have to practice magick and kinesis when they're asleep.
