Very few spirits actively seek to harm humans and Personally I've never encountered a murder from a spirit although I wouldnt go as far as to say its completely impossible. Far more often the dangers come from negative energy given off by spirits which feels a little unpleasant and can go as far as to make you sickly for a while but provided you know what you're doing it's fairly easy to prevent and counter such events. I haven't seen insidious so I don't know what they look like but very few spirits are particularly scary they're typically rather indifferent to us unless you do something that particularly annoys them.
If you want to attempt any spirit work I'd just recommend that you learn what you're doing first and how to deal with any problems that might arrive as a precaution.
That takes lots of work. You can't just randomly close your eyes and wait untill you see spirits. I don't think you will be able to see the gods, just imagine how they look like.
This takes a lot of meditating. And by that I don't mean meditating for 5 minutes then being able to see a spirit. This takes pracitce. It's possible. Now, go to google and reasearch more about it. Reasearch psychic abilities. If you don't feel and do these researches, then that shows me that the energy you have is not enthusiastic in wanting to see spirits. It is possible, you won't be able to do this in a matter of hours.... nor weeks... possibly months. Just do the correct reasearch. If you get a good reply, that won't mean you would be able to see spirits the following day.

Being able to see a spitit does not mean he/she can harm you. They would need your permission. If your too 'scare' to do this then don't do it at all. Yes, spirits can harm you but only the strong spirit ons. For example going in a very haunted area, were the energy is high. If you don't know what your doing, then don't do it at all.
MY experience with spirits even though most of my sight is natural.
First thing you should do is make sure you have a cleansing spell, or sage.
To call on a spirit you should meditate and honor that spirit, and understand your own spirit. Then you can open the gateway.
How I see deities, when I actually try. The way I do is by going into a gray area between lucid dreaming, hypnosis, deep meditation and the astral plane as all of the planes flow into each other. Most times they appear as lights with voices that don't always speak english. Every now and then while in Lucid dreaming they will appear and tell me something important. This type of sight has taken many years since they first came to me. Not to mention I spend about 6-12 hours a day practicing.
But it is the most rewarding part of my magic.
when you start to see astral visions while not astral projecting that'd mean that you are getting better
when that happens try to meditate with out thinking of anything at all
when it happen to see demonic visions in your meditates try it in a hunted place but before that learn casting circles / really this is important never be in a demonic energized place with out a circle
