There are entire temples devoted to the concept of meditation, examining buddhist thought on the subject as well as various New Age practices alongside any other such tradition you can imagine. All they can manage in their efforts to levitate, which they believe with all of their hearts to be the result of the lightening of their spirits and so forth, is hopping enthusiastically across a padded area while sitting in the lotus position.
Granted, they get a great deal of air and refer to this hopping as meditation... It is still just hopping.
Belief does not make something real. Manipulating energy does not significantly alter the physical... At least not unless you actually manage to agitate particles enough to alter the state of matter.
And yeah, I'm sure some 13 year old kid is going to start shouting "I can do that!"
Well, good for you kid. I hope your vivid imagination helps you cope with your intense inability to make friends.
I would also add to this that magic isn't about blind faith. Blind faith is what resulted in the witch trials and the burnings and so forth that so many people are so eager to rant about while, on the other hand, shouting excitedly about how anything is possible through magic.
Magic is about spiritual enlightenment, wisdom, and the understanding of the world within you and without. Understanding cannot be fully developed without the application of intelligent, rational thought... something that flies out the window as soon as you decide to ignore logic in favor of belief.
Now, I'm not saying there aren't things we can't explain. There are. And magic certainly taps into that. It has for centuries. But much of what people interpret as meaning that magic can make you fly, vanish, change form, etc. is metaphor used to describe the impact of various spiritual exorcises. The rest is fluff meant to intimidate, frighten, and awe the medieval mindset. You forget that the medieval magician/wizard/witch was usually equally parts wise man/woman, scientist, and con artist.
It is my suggestion that before you start telling someone else that magic isn't the path for them you step back and research the actual, historical origins of magic and how it can be traced back through time before diving right in to imagination land.
Good luck with that disappeared with my tolerance when the conversation stopped being intelligent debate and turned into one person using logic and the other person essentially saying "nuh uh, because I believe in it."
I bit my tounge at a certain something i read ("dragons dont exist and probably never did"), but alas i couldnt bite it anylonger, i study Dragon Magick, and i know for a fact they do exist, they use to live here but got hunted etc, so they left us for the ASTRAL REALM
