A man being born from a women. The circle of life and a pagan view. A god being born of a goddess is another pagan view specifically Wiccan. A demi god being born of a women, sounds like Hercules again pagan Star dust encompesses everything and some stars have multiple rings around them.
Beyond the various concepts of birth, the ring around a pentagram often represents the interconnected nature of the elements and the divine, or the spirit, or whatever you wish to call that which is not physical.
Circles within the circle, depending on what else is inscribed in the pentagram along with it, often indicate this as well.
Couldve been one circle counterclockwise for cleansing and one circle clockwise for protection if it was being used as a seal, an amulet, or in a spell.
A pentagram is a symbol. A pattern. Humans have always looked for "patterns" in everything! Flower petals, the shape of cones, but especially in the stars and the planets.
In the clear desert air, a few planets, certainly Mars and Venus, can be seen with the naked eye. And one planet was very peculiar! Venus! When Man developed the telescope,Venus began to look even more peculiar! First of all it rotated in the opposite direction of the other planets. But of much more interest was its orbital path! The planets seemed, to the old astronomers, to go around in a circle; all except Venus. After many years of study, watching, and carefully noting,it was discovered that the orbit of Venus did not go in a circle; it moved in straight lines! After noting that the planet took about 8 years for the orbit to complete, the astronomers made a startling discovery. The orbit of Venus forms a perfect "shape" in the sky. A Pentagram.
Don't take my word for this! Look it up!
Thank You Brysing. I never would have known that had you not posted it and enjoyed reding several articles online about it. :-)
However the true origins predate astronomy from my understanding. The five pointed star goes back over eight thousand years. It appears throughout nature. Starfish, Apple core, fingers on the hand having five points. There are sumarian pots with the pentacle on them. There are multiple origins stories.
Bottom line the Pentacle / Pentagram is one of the oldest symbols on Earth and represents the quest for knowledge, for truth, for oneness with the infinate and all that is it. It is a talisman for many but remains Heathen / Pagan / Mystical / Ancient in origin.
As to topic writers original question, someone once told me it was just decorative, a burning man friend while I lived in Nevada told me something about two celestial spheres (one outter and one inner) and a pagan friend when I lived in Florida told me it represents the physical self. Basically, I do not know but it appears to mean different things to different people just like the pentacle itself. I definately do not know the origins of the inner circle within the pentacle within the outer circle. I tried googling it and found that unhelpful so apologies I can not be more helpful.
You are correct, mindless. The symbol is extremely old. What I posted is not strictly true! Venus only "appears" to form a pentagram, at certain times, in relation to the Earth and the Sun.
