In many stories there where people who became gods after death. This is not real in my opinion.

Im thinking you may have come across EA Koetting?

His stuff is highly effective but he has a tendency (ahem...and im understating it...) for hyperbole.

So no unless the mormons are right...then no you cant...

Anybody can just say that they're a demi-god of so-and-so. It's better to find the reason why a person says such a thing.

So, the royal family of Japan has a legendary history of being related to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Cleopatra, a famous Egyptian princess, was honored as the daughter of Isis. The same claims were made, if I recall correctly, by Aztec royalty and Cambodian royalty. What do they have in common? POLITICS. That's all it is. The "power of the god" was granted to them as royal lineages who already had power over other people. Would you argue with a king if he feels like claiming godhood?

The kumari of India are children who are identified as the incarnations of the goddess Kali and are taken away to be worshipped until they reach puberty. Really, they seem to me, ordinary girls who get caught up in cultural traditions.

In my opinion we are all divine, or none of us are.

What do Mormons have to do with this? They don't believe in becoming gods. Geez..

in their afterlife they believe that they and their family will rule a planet for eternity.

just as this planet is ruled by a "god"

This is according to their theology and not all LDS members necessarily believe it.

I meant to be tongue in cheek and i hope i certainly did not offend you.

Beliefs are clashing here. Anyways all I was saying was that in myths people became gods after death. I'm not saying it's true or anything.

Demonguy13, there are so many myths and legends in the world, please do say specifically which country or tradition to which you are referring.

I'm talking about myths I read in Greek myths. Heracles was a formidable one.

Thank you. That clears things up so much.

Because if you compare Hercules and Jesus, and you get two very very very different ideas of how "son of (a) god" status would even work within the mythology, so I was like, "What is he talking about??"

So, just in the interest of further clarification: Did you mean that you didn't believe these guys ever existed, or that you don't believe that they had superhuman powers, or that you believe they existed and got stuff done but you don't believe one of their parents was (a) god, or you believe that they existed as demigods with superhuman powers but you don't believe that they became immortal after dying?

I believe they existed and had powers. I just believe that they didn't become a complete god after death.
