"The Chinese cannot help thinking that the octave has 5 notes. " - never knew that..
I guess they had different instruments and a different way of notation of music.

"It must have a 'natural' cause."
"It must have a 'supernatural' cause."
Supernatural means something that you have not learnt about. It's just a term of surprise.

"White is white" is the lash of the overseer;
"white is black" is the watchword of the slave.
The Master takes no heed.
I'm sort of confused about light and shadows currently, colour on furniture is apparently that the object cannot absorb the light. Like a "blue stool" cannot absorb blue light, yet the shadows behind a stool is black and grey.... so does that mean it can't absorb black and grey?
What is light!?

As far as the far first few lines of this piece, Sir, you're on the right track. The point is that "it must have a natural cause" "it must have a supernatural cause" for people to accept it. Even most of us accept nothing short of a completely rational answer.
As far as "white is white""white is black", it's important to note that he says "the master takes no heed". One who has mastered his perception does not need to be bothered with the facts.

The conclusion tells us that this piece is about faith and doubt and how either has the power to inspire or impede.

Thank you Balance. I always look most forward to responses from you and Kao. The two of you, along with Samael and Hyena are the people here, that somehow know what I mean before I say it. When I finally do say it, it just tickles a little doesn't it? Granted these are not my "own" words, but I could not say anything more true.
