"I just hope the coven stays around long enough and possibly changes itself a bit; we are under new leadership however the covenn cannot change what it was originally there for as I believe this is against site rules and so it is not the covens fault at all and again most (possibly not all but then again no coven is perfect) of the members are very knowledgeable and able and take magick very seriously just as I do."
Well let's work on this a bit. According to their page on SoM and their own website, the Council of Earna specializes in protection of the human race. Now that itself is not fluffy. To protect is not just to defend against a physically violent attack, but also to defend against invasion, insult, loss, annoyance, and pretty much everything else negative.
I don't know about you, but I can think of a lot of non-fluffy things that humanity needs protecting from. We have violent and base urges, we have ignorance and prejudice, we have misinformation and widespread lies, and there really are spiritual things people need defense against.
While the Council certainly seems fluffed out right now, there's nothing about its nature which necessitates this. It's totally salvageable.
I began to reply but why carry on you basically summed it up in your last post and I agree it wasn't you that bothered me chironjackal as I have read your inputs on posts before and you are a very knowledgable person but Zrozex calling us an 'idiot coven' is bang out of order and kind of ironic coming from a member of the biggest fluffiest coven on the site 'spellcasters' now thats what I didn't like and couldn'y just let the whole of the website read that and believe it.

Iisbach ChironJackal Zrozex You three are a pathetic excuse to be members on the site. Does it make you feel superior making fun of other by simply typing words?? Do you even know who you're facing those words at in the first place?
ChironJackal I didn't even waste my time reading your reply beacuse I have far more important things to attend to than some foolish kids (Iisbach Zrozex applies to u two as well) to reply to.
You say role playing? For crying out loud you guys are making pointless drama and you're barely above you're legal age! So here's the deal, know who you're messing with before I make things more serious.
As for you Bishop, I didn't reply to your mail because it was not worth replying to at the first place! And how about I share it with the others to see? "Hello I would like to join your coven, I am 14, I have 4 years of expirience, and I would like to join this coven because I think that it is my purpose in life to protect others." If that doesn't get you accepted I don't know what will!
To had for you all, he also applied to out main site which you were just making fun at. So know who to point you're fingers at.
Again, if this stupidity doesn't stop at once, you won't like what'll come next.
"Iisbach ChironJackal Zrozex You three are a pathetic excuse to be members on the site. Does it make you feel superior making fun of other by simply typing words??"
I quoted your site. If anyone made fun of you, it was you.
And did anyone else choke on the irony of "you three are pathetic" coming right before "does it make you feel superior making fun of others by by typing"?
"ChironJackal I didn't even waste my time reading your reply beacuse I have far more important things to attend to than some foolish kids"
That's immature and I'm 26.
"You say role playing? For crying out loud you guys are making pointless drama and you're barely above you're legal age! So here's the deal, know who you're messing with before I make things more serious."
... You know, none of that addresses why we found it to be roleplay-ish. If that's really not the case then refute it with evidence.
"Again, if this stupidity doesn't stop at once, you won't like what'll come next."
Just to clarify that came from someone whose website has instructions on how to perform DragonBall attack Kamehameha which, hilariously, actually involves yelling each syllable at different stages just like in the cartoon. Man, talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
... Also did you just totally not notice that my last post before yours was essentially positive? I'm actually trying to think of ways to help the coven.
Just because I joined the Spell Casters coven doesn't make me as stupid as the people in that
There is so much logical fallacy in that:
1: Fallacy of accident or sweeping generalization:
Its like saying "Cutting people is a crime and surgeons cut people so surgeons are huge crime lords"
2: Converse fallacy of accident or hasty generalization:
Its assuming everyone there is the same when a ton of us are very skilled (A great example of this is Nekoshema is by far one of the wisest people I've met and no where near fluffy for joining that)
3: Irrelevant conclusion:
The coven leader said there is a such thing as battle mages (Which is a skill class from many online games such as World of Warcraft) so battle mages are real but you take the word as they are a leader so you assume its true
Zrozex "Just because I joined the Spell Casters coven doesn't make me as stupid as the people in that "
You talk about logical fallacies but don't you realise you mae them yourself! You called everyone in the coven idiots.
In other words you judged over 20 people on what you read on a site and a coven page which has information which has not been changed for years, I didn't call you an idiot I merely said your coven is the a well known coven with a lot of fluffy idiots not that you yourself was a fluffy idiot.
And also I have never before ow bad mouthed that coven ever and what gives you the right to do so to someone elses I do not know, I am fairly certain noone in my coven has gone around asking for werewolf or vampire spells, in other words we don't annoy people and so the only reason you might have insulted us is out of your own spite you had nothing to gain from it that I know of and no provoked reason either.

Truth right here. I think we need to take a moment to look at what we mean but "the coven."
Its over-arching goal is not remotely fluffy. It isn't phrased in the most Hermetically serious way possible, but then there's also no reason why it needs to be. The Grey School of Wizardry is another good example of this - an essentially good and serious institution which uses slightly fluffy-sounding terminology. We could therefore voice our opinion that it is perhaps not the best choice to use such terms, but we would be in error to just sweepingly label everything in it as fluffy.
A lot of the information associated with the coven, now that is fluffy. As Wiccandeity pointed out, that information is pretty old. We can from it infer that they were fluffy in the past, but not conclude that they are still fluffy today. Regardless of whether or not they are fluffy they will at the very least look fluffy to everyone around them. This has the obvious two-fold problem of attracting fluffy people and repelling the serious practitioner. This isn't an absolute, but it's a pretty noticeable trend and should most certainly be stopped.
Are the coveners fluffy? Certainly some of them are. I know the ranking system on SoM is imperfect, but I've found it to be generally accurate. Have you looked at your coven's rankings compared to those of other covens? Not to suggest that we're all in some sort of competition, but don't you find it suspicious at all that your coven has not only failed to attract any Knowledgeable members, but only even has two Novices? It can't be that there's just so few members interested in what your coven offers, because there are covens that have a great deal of overlap with the Council that don't suffer this problem.
I considered joining your coven, actually. Too many things I found were fluffy as can be, though. And all this goes back to my point about appearances and repelling members - even if not one of you believes you can fly and shoot exploding anime beams, that's still what you're effectively telling me and anyone else who actually researches your coven before signing up. These people are of course the most likely to be taking things seriously and have a genuine interest in the well-being of the coven. They are, in other words, the last people in the world you'd want to repel.
Anyway my point with all this was that there are some measures of the coven where it is quite fluffy and others where it certainly is not. For the sake of those good parts we should not allow the fluffy parts to drag it down but we should also not start attacking the coven arbitrarily.
