I sent you a mail with some questions to see what advice I can give. I wasn't sure if you might consider a couple of them sensitive/touchy so I thought a private talk would be best. Though if you can be comfortable putting the answers in here as well it would help clarify the problem for others so they can help as well.
This is mainly my personal opinion but I do not believe any being can take a human soul. I believe you could perhaps give it up, but no being can simply take it from you. The details you have given are too limited to be of much help in determining your exact situation for certain yet based on the details one can make some educated guesses. I would assume this bad crowd your son became involved in was into the occult in some way be it big or small. Your son likely got involved either not knowing this, not taking it seriously, or it was darker than he expected. Either way now he believes, either because of something they said to him or some activity that he took part in, that he is cursed. It is more likely that his guilt, fear, anxiety, and stress have taken the shape of nightmares rather than him being cursed. There are methods such as banishing, cleansing, and protection related magick you could turn to yet if this is not some outside force but a emotional one these methods will not help. He mainly needs reassuring that he is safe, loved, and that his will is stronger than some dark force be it from the outside or inside his heart. Worry and anxiety as well as lack of sleep could easily contribute to his current weak condition. It is not impossble that an outside force is involved, but overall this is something anyone who's gone through a shock or tragic experience can feel as worry & stress can play havoc on the human body as well as mind.
Is he any good at visualizations? if so I have a few methods that might work for him, the curse is powerful but if you cut the connection it cant really do anything.
in the most basic of terms imagine a conglomerate of energy that is the curse, then imagine a line connecting that curse to yourself or him whoevers doing it, imagine slashing and cutting that line.
this has worked for me on a few occasions and will work unless hes pissing with a voodoo priest or something.
your right in that nothing can take a humans soul, if they are living ive read about and expierianced a Christian curse that's main objective was making sure that a persons soul has to go to a Christian afterlife, basicly meaning if you arnt Christian you go to hell.
i would advise against hiring a 'professional witch' to help, unless you can go to a local reputable source [say there's a local occult shop that does healings, or an open coven] there's a lot of scammers so i wouldn't want you being targeted. that said, you can cast spells yourself, don't say you can't, anyone can cast spells, plus with the energy you have invested in the situation, it can work better for you over a stranger.
idk the full situation but there's a number of things you can do. first i would see a doctor, both a physician and a therapist as poor sleep could be the result of several things. [from sleep apnea to a guilty conscious] magickally there are many things to do, cleanse and protect your home and your son. [a salt bath or sage smudge can cleanse negative energy easily] as for protection, you could burn incense, say a chant, or hang a protection symbol in the room above the door. as a daily extra your son can ground and shield to keep any extra negative energy away, or wear a protection symbol.
as for his sleep, again, talk to a doctor first, but you might like a dream pillow made with lavender and/or mint which brings peaceful sleep.
Depending on the nature of the curse thee are a variety of ways to solve the problem. There isn't really a "cure all" for curses. There are some I would call a "cure most" but that's about it. What kind of people was he hanging around first of all, and what was he doing? This may give us some insight on how to help. If you do not feel comfortable telling a mass of people, feel free to message me at any time and I will reply asap. Knowing the events leading to this may not give us a definite answer, however it could easily get us closer to a solution. As many others have said, it may not be a curse. When things seem out of place or wrong many people are quite quick to cry "curse" or "demon". In my experience, this is usually not the case. I'm not saying your wrong, but I do want you to be absolutely sure. No need watering a plant thay does not need it, am I right?
If you find out more about the curse used, you can find a corresponding protection spell. The curse casted sounds like much more than some "back luck" curse people usually use.
