And there are (I think) 7 types of chakra. Each one for a different use. The most common chakra towards witches is the Third Eye; ability to involve more into the paranormal activities than your average mortal/witch, sort of like a medium you could say.
How much meditation is required before you cast a spell?

Meditation is optional actually. If your mind is fumbled and you're getting easily distracted, meditation is the key. When you meditate, your becoming in a less stressful, more relaxing state with a high sudden voltage of concentration. Also, it temporarily deletes frustration, anger, stress, and some other emotions that go towards anything unhealthy. Sometimes, SOMETIMES, you can feel a great power of knowledge. But if you're already relaxed, unstressed, and well concentrated, you don't need meditation. But if you're too happy or excited, it's best to do meditation there also; it also balances out happiness, because happiness and excitement can lead to distraction.
But for the minimum time to meditate would have to be 15 minutes, maximum time would have to be 1 hour or so. I don't meditate that much, and many spells work for me.
A chakra is the center of psychic energy within the body-- kind of like a soul's organs. The Third Eye is the most popular, because its function is associated with psychic vision, but a magician should make sure all his/her spiritual organs are in good condition because in spellcasting (especially, but not solely) we strain them.
Keeping the chakras in good condition can be done by cleansing rituals, grounding and centering rituals, but more simply and directly through meditation.
In this kind of "direct" magick, spellcasting IS a kind of meditation, and to gain the abilities to make spellcasting effective requires a lot of meditation techniques as well.
If you can initiate an out-of-body experience, that can be your first sure step into the magickal world... but you might need to spend some time afterwards learning to adjust to that state of mind, and then learning to utilize these shifts in states of mind to cast spells and keep up with any abilities you awaken. Yes it is necessary. Balance of chakras help with energy flow. Controlling the energies of the world to our will is Magick. Meditation is the foundation of magick, no matter what kind of meditation.

and for what batmanfallen.. said.. I am christian.. and no devil is included as long as you do not want to include such entity or symbol.. ^_^ as far as I am concerned... the devil is in all of us just like God is...in a religious sense... O_O but further more... magick is mostly mind power...And Hypnosis is a way of seen that power... there is a myth where people say that only weak minded get hypnotize.. that is inaccurate... and it is always awesome to practice... -_- no one wants to practice with me.

Magick is about life force, Chi, energy. Nothing to do with the Devil. Besides, Witchcraft was one of the first religions and had no Satan. He only came into existence when Christianity did.

Lol your not a noob. Yes a newbie but never a noob. A book of Shadows is where a witch or mage(like myself) store their spells and rituals and information about that ritual/spell. Its your own personal spellbook.
