becoming a Shaman?
By:
Hello,

I'm interested in possibly working towards
becoming a Shaman.

However, I am requesting help to find
resources (I have started looking on the net)
that would help me do this all by myself.

I can't afford schools or anything like this
at the moment.

One thing I've learned in my present readings
is that it's something that one receives
calling for at one point in their lives.

I believe that I've had enough experiences
such as OBE's as a child and in recent years,
I've seen UFO's, I have had what I thought
were just many "dreams" over the years in
connections to different animals.

The funny thing is that the wolf (at least
I think it's a wolf) seems to be present in
many of them.

I am also quite convinced that I have a small
Native American background as my Mother was
adopted French Canadian and possibly Native
American.

I've been told I look Native for many many
years now.

Last fall I saw a Shaman and I definitely
felt things I never felt before.

She also gave me a pretty crazy but positive
reading from the spirits.

I'm interested in learning how to start going
on the "Shamanistic Journey's".

If people can help, that would be greatly
appreciated.

I wish everyone well and positive energy.

Thank you

Probably because there isn't an abundance of Shaman's on the site.

It takes a very very long time to get that status, this much I know. It would probably be best to be recognized by your tribe first.

I'll point my hubby to this thread when he has time. He knows far more about it than I ever could.

Becoming a Shaman and being recognized by your Clan or tribe as one can be a long persuit.
Depending on the tribe and their beliefs. It can take from a few years to a lifetime.
Some Believe it is a birth right.
Some believe if Your not Native American its not even possible for you to become a Shaman.
Not all tribes even call the wise man or woman a Shaman.
My Tribe ,Tsalagi (cheerokee) believe Blood is important but it is more the calling on your life that leads you to follow this path.
Ive practiced for many years, and I hope to some day reach the Status of Shaman within my tribe.

I not even accepted as a shaman. I have "too little" native American blood in me for them to accept that i am one of them

I was going to say what Nodrk said. Shaman is a cultural title. Not just Native, though. There ARE Shamans in Norse traditions--but again, you must be part of the community and trained at a certain age in order to earn that title.

Now, you can learn Shamanism and be a Shamanistic Pagan/Witch/Magician (or whatever you are).
