how to make a wand

Making a wand can be fun but more than that it can be a powerful tool used in your Wiccan work. Below I have outlined how to make a general-purpose wand, this is open to as much or as little adjustment as you prefer.
Wands can be made for a single specific purpose to give greater power to a spell. You can change the wood it is made from to correspond to properties needed within the specific
spell or purpose, You can also use a different crystal, Quartz is good because it is able to adapt to what ever purpose it is needed for.

Materials
1 length of Wood, Oak is commonly chosen but it is really up to availability and individual preference. The wood should be no more than 2.5cm thick at its widest point and really no less than 30cm long.
1 finger of Quartz, The quartz should really be no less than 5cm long.
Strips of Leather, The sort used for hanging jewelry around your neck works well and is probably the easiest to get hold of.
Polished Stone, This should be about the size and shape of a large marble or maybe a bit bigger.
Resin Glue, along the lines of Araldite or something similar, best to have fast drying.
Decoration, Beads, feathers or what every you like.
String, Any type
________________________________________________________________

Step 1
At the thinnest end of the wood drill a hole in the center about 10mm in diameter,
then saw a groove, the groove should be about 4cm long, (It is best to hold the wood in a
vice while doing this, it saves getting blood on the floor)
Step 2
At the bottom of the saw cut bind the wood tightly with some string, the reason for this is explained in step 3.
Step 3
Using a screwdriver force apart the wood where you made the saw cut enough to allow you to insert your quartz finger into the opening. Depending on the piece of quartz
you may need to glue it in place, only do this if it is really necessary. The string you wrapped around the wood in step 2 should help prevent a split running down the length of the wood. If the wood breaks you may need to start again, be patient.
Step 3b
While you have the wood forced open thread a piece of the leather into the gap as well; this can be glued in place if needed. The leather should only come through one side of the wood.
Step 4
Remove the screwdriver once everything is in place, and then tightly bind the wood that is holding the Quartz with the leather. After the leather has been tightly bound around
the quartz and wood the string can be removed.
Step 5
Drill a 10mm hole or bigger in the widest end of the wood, then fill the hole with glue and glue the polished stone to this end. It can be a good idea to rub the area of stone to be glued on sand paper to rough it a little; this helps the glue to stick better.
Step 6
Your wand is now ready for use, it can also now be decorated as you like it using things such as small polished stones, gold and silver braid, feathers or anything else you like. If all has gone to plan your wand will look better than the illustration, if not then try again.... You will get better with practice.
