Hi! I am new!

Hi, a am a 14 year old boy who has loved magic since he was 7. I have always loved magic but not until the past two years have i really grasped what it is. I am a devote catholic, along with the rest of my family. My family thinks that magic is weird and will not allow me to practice it. I now do it in secret, i feel like a dark ages witch waiting to be cought. I have trouble getting ingrediants and other material because my parents would yell at me. Anyway, i probably sound like a freak but all in all my parents do not support my love of magic and it is hard to practice it, but i manage to anyway.

Here is an example of how i have used magic, AND SUCCEEDED, before. One cloudy summer day while i was down at the shore, i was so extremely board that i decided to write a spell. It was a weather spell, and since i was younger, i had gotten my ideas all from that book, wizardology. After i had created the spell, i called up to of my friends and we formed a three person circle. We recited the spell and within ten minutes the sky cleared and the sun shone. Unfortunatly that is one of my only success stories, i would love help from anyone so that i will have even more stories later.

Hi, Pterac, welcome to the site, mind if I ask you what the book wizardology is like? I was reluctant to purchase it after 2006 when it was shortlisted for the British Children's book of the year and so have never really looked at it, which come to think of it may be a little snobbish of me.

well, it can be kind of usefull to start you off, but only a bit. It does have some real information, but not enough to really let you learn magic. Its interesting though.

Nice to meet you pterac! :D I hope you enjoy it here and please feel free to send me a message if you ever have any questions or just want to talk.

My first spell was a weather spell as well, though the opposite of yours (nothing makes me happier than a good thunderstorm). What first brought you to magick? I'm so sorry that you're repressed like that, but it teaches you to be resourceful and it strengthens faith.

And PnJ I have the same ''book snobbery'' problem, lol. I'm slowly coming out of it and learning to look to unconventional places for magick inspiration, lol. Sometimes the best kept secrets aren't hidden at all.

How exactly can you justify being Catholic and practicing magick? Makes no sense, really. I'm not bashing you or anything. I'm just curious as to how Christian practitioners see it. I asked one person and they just said, "oh we just blurt that part out lol!"

Oh, and welcome to Spells of Magic! =]

Callum, there is a very rich history of magic within the Catholic faith - typically folk Catholicism. Granted, much of these practices are not sanctioned by most mainstream Catholics nor the Vatican.

Much of it revolves around petitioning saints and various magico-religious dieties (such as Santisma Muerta), offering them various rewards, punishments, and sacrifices, performing rituals, candlework, faith healing, and the like. Check out curanderismo or New Orleans-style Catholic hoodoo for further reading.

Wizardology has had an influence of harry potter syndrome, but a majority of it is a mixture of actual mythlore/folklore and the modern stereotype for a 'wizard'.
I do admit I got into magic by it and did one of my first spells by it.. Heheh..
