Personally I like the pressing method, but some prefer a stiller to extract the natural oils. Your best bet is to find a few books on how to make your own essential oils and such, and study up the different methods.

I dry my herbs hanging upside down in a cool shadow...if the herb contains lots of moisture, keep it from touching anything else but the paper they're on. Newspaper is good for drying it sucks the moisture out of them.
I'm not a big expert on oils, but i do use cold infusion all the time. The cold infusion is to only extract magickal and medical properties of the herbs. They won't have a very strong smell like essential oils, but the magickal properties will remain there as will the medical. Now how to perform the cold infusion is to only dip the herbs in any oil you wish (if it's one time use any oil is good if it's for long term use it's best to use oils that don't spoil quickly). Then leave it in the oil for about 2 weeks (a week in the least and amonth max) and shake every day...keep the herbs covered with oil or they will grow mold. When it's done sitting, filter it and this is best used for cooking, dressing candles or for healing uses and so on.
Depends on the properties of the herb...
When you make oils it's allways best to make sure you got as much info on the herbs you are usin g as possible...it might be poisonus even though you're sure it's not.
Blessed be!

Heat infused oils is another way to draw out natural medicinal qualities as well as magical.

Heat infused is the use of things like a crock pot. You take about 2 cups of carrier oil for every 1 cup of dried/fresh plant material, dried works best. You just let it simmer in a crock pot for about 4-6 hours, then Strain. Makes great anointing oil, as well as massage oil, and can be used for several other things.

On the drying side ( left this out before) You can do as brim said and use newspaper, or salt, or even paper towels. I use a light press when I'm drying flowers and leaves and such by placing the plant material between two sheets of paper towels, then laying a small saucer on top of it for a few days. It keeps it from molding, and the paper towel sucks out the moisture.
takes about 2-3 days depending on the plant. You have to becareful though, you can easily bruise petals and leaves. I advise using paper plates to buffer the plant material, then set one on the top followed by the saucer, it works best that way.

For the Salting method, you just place the plants in like a tubberware dish and shake salt over the plant covering it as much as possible, and the salt does the rest and there is no bruising.

if you leave it in the sun that will work, but make sure it's only partial, you don't want the material to begin to rot inside the carrier you decided to use.
