Hello, I do not claim to know everything but I can help you in some areas.

Learn correspondences. Star signs, elements, which direction (North, East, South, West) represents which element, the guardians for that direction, meditation, moon phases and what spells are good for which phase, Sabbats, esbats, and of course you magickal name.

If you know and understand these, spells will be more powerful, accurate and hopefully won't backfire if you do them right.

If you want more details on any of these, let me know and I can help you. I don't know everything but I have been studying for 5 years now.
