In being asked to add more on Dragon Magick which I have no issue in doing, we on the Clan recently ran into an issue and I had to type something up, so I decided to add it here because it does clear the air on religion & DM.
Dragon Magick is NOT Wicca or any other religion based practice. Originally it was a cultural base practice. As many know each culture has its own set of deities or spirits that it prayed to, performed rituals in remembrance of, and asked to bless their way of life. As this was how everyone lived for thousands of years before the idea of Christianity and other deity specific religions came along.
Since the dawn of Christian based faiths every way of living and praying has been denounced that was not completely inline of the Christian doctrines and dogmas. Given what we know and what we have all been taught this way of thinking is "man's" downfall not of the God/dess. People have believe for lifetimes that different deities represent different aspects of the universe. For one faith to say that all other faiths and practices are wrong but itself, is wrong & sounds more like man's ability to be jealous. This does not sound like the idealisms of spirit(s) that exist in knowing that we are all apart of the same cosmic energy.
In your DM practice we will not attach religion, nor will we find fault with those who do. If you choose to balance your practice while following any faith that is your business. But I will tell you that Dragons are not evil as neither are Pagans. We are simple people who chose to remember the ways of our ancestors and attempt to make change in the world, instead of leaving our lives to fate. I personally welcome practitioners from other faiths and walks, and find sorrow in those who struggle between their beliefs.
Anyone that practices anything should do so in whole and complete belief. One should never follow Christianity while practicing Magick in thoughts of doing so to be "safe". That is fence straddling and asinine. Believe completely in what you practice or don't practice it at all. All forms and traditions found under the term Paganism are lifestyles. They are not something you claim to believe in one day and not the next as it suits you. Be sure and firm in what you believe, and defend it against those who would call you out to ridicule you.
We do not ask for your soul, nor sacrifice of any kind other than being true to your studies. We do not press our practice on any one else, hence why we are so hard to find. A true practitioner will never seek to "recruit", but will be there to answer if sought. We do not ask you to break the laws of man, nor do we encourage you to lie to your parents. We help in every way possible, try to do right by each other. We are peaceful, and ask to be left to our peace and studies. But like every good natured human, we will defend our friends and families. And finally we do not condemn you for your short comings.
So can a Christian practice Dragon Magick? Yes Many have found a balance in this combination of practices. Do I do so? No, I do not follow Christianity, though I have studied it. I don't believe in that way of life, nor do I hold malice towards those who do.
Thank you very much for enlighten us with this knowledge, I really enjoyed reading and i truly wanted to know the main purpose and ways of it. It clears all my misunderstandings on this topic.
I can agree with a majority of this post towards magick in general.
That said, I think people need the ability to be somewhat instable in their beliefs (sorry, you know me :P). I feel this way because we are each individuals and as we live and learn and move through our lives our beliefs change and grow, so in the end a Christian may become LeVayan, or vice versa, or anything else. Lol.
It is a natural part of our lives that our beliefs change and grow. If they did not do so they would stop being applicable in our lives, and thereby the guidance they are meant to give us cannot be found. What a child believes an adult won't.
Other than that, yes, I feel you should be unshakable. If you can't back your belief to yourself, how can you back it to others in your lives? Honestly, I don't lie to my parents, nor do I hide my practice from. Do they know I do it? Nope, but if they asked I'd tell them, just as with anyone else. If someone then decided to turn around and call me crazy, I'd just say, "Well it makes me happy, and isn't that what is important?"
