I have noticed while browsing this site that alot of members choose to include their sexuality in their bio. Correct me if i am wrong but this site isnt a online dating service. This site is for the learning and teaching of magick.
And on a separate but equally important note...i encourage all of the members here to be yourself and dont try and be anything more. You cannot achieve greatness by playing pretend. Take the time and learn, study, research, and practice. It takes time but what you gain from truly studying the craft is so better than sitting around wishing to be a character out of a movie. Dont go around saying your a vampire or werewolf or some kind of demon hybrid. If you do i can guarantee the door to true power will get smaller and smaller. The more power you pretend to have the less you will work to actually gain real power.
Anyway..that was my little speach. I rarely return to previous forums so its safe to say i will not return to this one to debate. I am not here for such childish things. I would like however to offer my assistance to anyone who needs help or wishes to learn. All you have to do is personal message me.

You may not come back to this thread, nightshade, but others will. So I will say I agree with everything in your post. Why, on earth, should a twelve-year-old state that he/she is gay, or bi-sexual? It is because it makes him/her "special"; not one of the common herd! Or, at least, that's what they think.
I can understand mentioning sexuality in some sort of characteristic explanation. Cept it isn't just sexuality that makes some biographies look like dating profiles, its the listings of likes/dislikes, age, gender, all that sort. If it was simply sexuality, the topic wouldn't exactly be needed.
I'm bisexual, I'm sure if I mentioned it in my bio, it wouldn't make any difference.
I admit my sexuality because I hide it as well as practicing magick and I like that the people on here are accepting allowing me to express my true self. Your orientation is part of what makes you you and I tried to be thorough with my profile. I'm sorry some people find it silly, but if your gonna open up to people fully and maybe make some friends who share your interests revealing your sexuality in my mind is a good thing.
i totally agree, this is a site about magick, not dating stating your sexuality, or finding other gay/bi/straight people to talk to about being gay/bi/straight. i can honestly care less if you gay/bi/straight especailly here where i just want to hear about magick.
I agree with the whole thing. But maby it is cuz if people are allowed to expres themselvs then they are more willing to acept help. And it can people to connect more. But again I agree and I am just saying.
Whilst I do argue in forums at times, it is safe to say that I probably as well will not be returning to argue on this thread after I have deposited my two cents.
The reason that people state these things about themselves--including, but not limited to sexuallity--is due to the fact the it is a "bio". That meaning "biography". Generally, a bio like this is supposed to state these things so that others may know what to expect from you when you log on and it is not so random.
Now, as far as sexuallity, this might be list by some so that if they make a comment that could be taken as homosexual, people will not make crude and inappropriate jokes and say things like, "Dude, are you freakin' gay!?" If they already know this, then there is no fun in these "jokes" and much hurt and agument is saved in the long run.
There's a saying that gets turned and adjusted around to fit various situations and I think it can be used here..."If you don't like it, don't read it".
I agree that this is not a dating service, but keep in mind some people come here and choose to express all of them selves to others who should in theory be like minded individuals.
Personally, I don't care to see what sexual orientation a person is either because I simply do not care. It doesn't affect my life in anyway, shape or form. So when I see a profile that does announce what their sexual preference is...I make the decision to click out of it or to continue reading instead of creating a thread attempting to correct behavior that isn't mine to correct.
very interesting post. i included my sexuality in my username simply because its a nickname i was given by a friend. im open about it online because im not open about it in my life and this site gives me freedom to be myself. not many people know im gay and into magic. you have raised some excellent points about the site not being a dating site yet a surprising amount people use it like that. im here to learn and share knowledge of magic but i often get requests and there is only so many polite rejections you can give before it starts to annoy you. i have considered deleting my profile and starting again but why should i? my sexuality is a major part of who i am and so is magic. its my choice to say it to people on my profile.
