When I first heard about slenderman I was convinced that he was some mythological creature that had and continued to prey upon humans. I was terrified and didn't sleep well that night. The next day I found out slenderman was the product of a competition to post fake pictures and information on paranormal web sites and see how many people thought they were real. As far as I know, everything about slenderman is fake and part of an internet meme designed to create a fake mythos around a fake creature. However, when I asked a ghost of a family member about slenderman, he said that it was based on something that did exist, though there were only 5 or so of them on earth and they were not as dangerous as the meme suggests. This "documentary" on slenderman is freakishly specific also:

Could you supply more details of what your ancestor said? Like, the creature it talked about. It sounds intriguing, although I knew the slender-man thing was fake awhile ago.

This is all nonsense. Slenderman was a monster created in the Something Aweful forums a few years ago in a create you own monster contest and it won. A little research can go a long way. The sightings are all people scaring themselves because people think this thing is real. People don't do their research and assume things online are real.

I know that the "slender-man" isn't real. But the poster above my first post mentioned that it was similar to another myth, and I find folklore interesting. I was just asking if he would provide more information on it.

To be honest, I had no idea such a thing existed until a boy of age 8 told me about it. He said he awoke one night and saw a tall man with no face and no hands in his room and just stared at him.
I didn't believe the kid until looked this up myself.

As far as creepy monsters go
The rake > the slender man.
They're both totally fake and meant to scare people.
There are many videos on youtube about the Slender man that are obviously fake, for example, the marble hornets series which I admit that I enjoy. But he is a character based off of a real being. The Slender man is a German fairy tale where he is known as Der Grossmann ("The tall man" or "The Slender man") but there have been real sightings of him. Some preists have even reported seeing him. And I'm not lieing when I say that I have too. I had visions where he would visit me, each time in a different way. But always present. He is Das engel auf Tod. The angel of Death.
