Spirit Guides?

I was just wondering if Spirit Guides have to be animals. I am not sure if I have really encountered a spirit guide, but in meditation I have seen Egyptian Cat statues a couple times that are quite comforting. Also I have encountered a man and a women that are just comforting and remind of Christian angels. I am wondering if these are spirit guides, something else, or just emotions and thoughts I am letting in during meditation. Also, do not be afraid to say these are figments of my mind, I am very open to that possibility ;)

animal orientated guides are usually what one can also refer to as totem, the totem helps to act as one of the first guides one encounters, it helps to act as a guide between the normal conscious mind to the subconscious, eventually when the gap between conscious and subconscious has been shortened and one actually starts to encounter ones own soul one usually also encounters a spirit guide (but only if you actually feel you require one, not everyone has a need for guidance because they are brave enough to trust themselves and allow their own souls to guide them)

also, to help learn to trust yourself when you encounter any entity instead of just trusting your minds eye also take the time to feel, our minds see so many images that often it can become confused, our abilty to feel the pressure and presence created by any entity is often alot easier to percieve.
