I was thinking about buying a tarot card deck, and I don't have any experience with this, and I was wondering what type people prefer. Any suggestions?

The Rider Waite is the old classic. From it most other tarot decks are based. The Thoth deck is also rather interesting in my opinion, being a variant of the Rider Waite that includes more symbolism rooted in the studies of Aleister Crowley.

Before I chose a deck I looked at a lot of pictures of cards from different decks just to see what symbolism really caught my eye and spoke to me. It's going to be speaking to you through these symbols, so you should obviously therefore seek the symbols you identify with the most.

What I used was essentially the printed version of this website;

I prefer the Gilded Tarot Deck as it is helpful for beginners and it connects with me, but as ChironJackal said, look for a deck that you have a connection with.

Good Luck!

You can make your own Tarot cards, as they can be more powerful as ever! If you will put your all love and intention while drawing images and symbols,then you will get a great assistant in your life. Bless them, burn herbs and you can sucrify blood which I mixed with paints. It's will encrease effectiveness in your readings. Blessed be!
