i understand what you guys mean, but would like to point out for future reference, magic has no colour, it's the intent you use that give it a positive [white] or negative [black] intent.
the problem with 'white', or 'positive' magic, is magic is a lot more grey than black and white. i will assume you are all Wiccan and therefore follow 'As it Harm None, Do What Thou Wilt' this includes yourself, as well as other people, and this includes free will. say you cast a healing spell over your best friend who has the flu. you may think you're doing good, but say she doesn't like magic and thinks it's evil and doesn't want you to do anything. this makes it negative. you have decided your will is better/more important than your friends will. don't expect the rule of three to go too hard on you, but it would be a bad thing. you cannot cast over others if you are going to learn 'white' magic. that's the first rule. [for anyone who doesn't know, 'rule of three' is whatever you do returns 3 fold, good or bad. so a stronger version of karma]
same goes with love spells. you cannot cast a love spell to make your crush ask you out, you are imposing your will over him. this will also backfire one day. say it works and you two start going out, one day the spell will wear off and there's a good chance he will leave you, so you need to keep repeating the spell. in this way, you're controlling someone, 'black' magic. or their will might be stronger than yours, and the spell never works to begin with, but you cast on someone else, meaning the rule of three will come back to haunt you.
what you could do in these situations, if you want a date but don't want to cast over someone, is make a generic love spell to bring love into your life. personally i suggest a Honey Jar spell, you're not casting over one person [unless you but their picture into the jar, or visualize them] what you are doing is asking the universe to bring someone into your life to love you. you were already destined to meet them one day, you're just speeding it up is all.
with positive 'white' magic you need to think more before casting, which is a good thing. too often do people cast willie nillie and go about their day. you need to think long and hard, figure out if the situation needs a spell, what spell is needed, if it harms anyone. from their, if everything is positive, you need to wait for the right moon phase, might even have to wait for a certain day, collect the ingredients, maybe even have to do some sort or preparation like a cleansing bath. magic can be a lot of fun, but it's a responsibility, you need to be careful what you wish for.
final point, for certain things, there's things you can do to help that won't involve magic. for the friend who is sick, make her soup, or some lemon-ginger tea. for the boy you like, just talk to him. one very important point about magic you should know, magic works better if you put effort in as well. a job spell won't work if you don't pass out a few resumes, a friendship spell won't work if you don't talk to people.
