hello all. I'm new to the practice of magicks(only started a few days ago) and am looking for tips as how to best learn( and later improve) the basics. so far I've practiced meditation, making a psi ball, grounding myself, and making a circle. the type of magicks I'd like to learn are healing, protection, force, conjuring, enchanting, truth, and death.

If you think you're ready to move on from the basics, I would start working on and/or studying the areas that interest you. Protection spells are fairly easy so you could start there and then once you feel you have a good understanding of them and how to cast them, you could move onto another item on your list of interests.

typically this time would be your year and a day where you do a lot of study. be sure you meditate daily, and practice the others at least once a month to improve. if you feel comfortable, yes, move on, but you should research more. if you can, buy or borrow a book for beginners. Wicca for Life by Raymond Buckland was my first, and I loved it. Wicca a Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cunningham is another great one. [even if you're not Wiccan]

those are two good sites i enjoy frequenting, they can help you in your studies. also, check out some of the articles on the site, while not all are good ones [A Beginners Guide by Spirit for example] as well, joining a coven that teaches what you're interested in or need help with is a great idea. if you do go to buy a bunch of books, just research the author first, while not everyone dislikes D.J. Conway or Silver Ravenworlf, most would agree they're not the best for first time readers. also, i do believe Google Books has a bunch of books for beginners for free. blessed be.

As an alternative, you could organize an "off-site" coven. This is not a foriegn idea, and there are many "off-site" covens currently however they do have a small long term success rate. The idea is to gather a dedicated group of people from this site and then set up either your own website (webs.com, wix.com, etc. are good free website builders) or set up a social networking page. (Facebook group, spruz.com, etc.) You then treat that external website much like you would a coven on this site. If you would like further ideas, just message me.
