Quite a while back, my grandmother died.
She very actively used magick, and if she trusted you enough to let you into her house, you could very easily see it and she wouldn't try to hide it from you. She wouldn't exactly go around telling everyone, either. Well, she didn't exactly have anyone to tell, apart from her remaining family (my dad, brothers and I).
I used to be around there a lot, and I still remember all the animals she would have around. Out of all of her pets, there was one cat, that would always be around, lying across her shoulders, over her lap, by her feet when she walked and forgot to pick it up. We managed to convince her to come to the zoo with us once, when I was very young, and I still remember her smile when we discovered the cat that had been hiding itself in the back
of the car. Whenever she would sit to do her spells, the cat would be sat down next to her, just watching what she was doing.
When my grandmother died, it was from a heart attack.
There was something different about her death, however. The same cat was curled over her chest, dead as well.
They looked, to see if it wasn't really a heart attack, if they'd both died from un-natural causes, gases, wounds... Nothing came up. She died from a heart attack, and the cat, the best they could say was that it literally just laid down and died.
Now, I have no doubt that the cat was her familiar, but I'm truly unsure of what happened with the cat. I've heard of familiars dying before, but not alongside the witch and I guess I just want answers.
Thanks.
The familiar's (cat's) job was done. Don't worry, I see no suffering. The cat will return to be a familiar for another witch. Its all ok. Blessed Be...
There is such a thing as dying from a broken heart. And animals are prone to it. A familiar remains yours forever unless you break that bond. A familiar in the most simplest terms is a kindred spirit. I'm sure they are together and will be, no matter where the road may lead them.
Blessings to you, your grandmother, and her feline companion, who's spirit may have been much more than a cat. I'll bet on that
;-) WR
You are very welcome. The story was very inspirational, might I add. Thank you for sharing. I've heard of the strong bond between animal familiars and witches before, but not one quite so modern. It's nice to know that there are those that still practice the true old ways.
