How can runes be used in magick, divination, and what are the rules in combining runes?

I don't really work with runes but each symbol has a different meaning so you can use them in spells to give the spells more power. For fortune telling, there are different methods but the way my covenmate does it is for the person to reach into a bag and pull out five runes then cast them on the table, the order and the way the runes face are read in divination.
