I am a strong believer that what effects the physical body, also effects the energy body and vice verse(even if the effect isn't always mirrored exact). So healing with magic to me, while it may at times have a placebo effect is very real. I have used healing on people who never knew, or only knew long after I did so. It worked without their knowledge, and thus I find evidence that there can be something more than just the placebo effect there.
However, when one heals themselves, or heals with the person knowing, it can cause a placebo effect as well. Also, in cases where the person cannot heal the person properly, the full case may be a case of placebo. I do think things like the placebo effect is very important in magic, as it will not only help even if only on a mental level, but the belief of it can end up casting a spell in itself, adding to the already in place one, or simply succeed better by leaving the person more open to it's effects.
In finishing, yes in my opinion there is a difference between the two, a very fine line. However, the two can easily work in unison making the question "Is it in my head?" rather pointless, as your goal was to feel better, and if you do then on some level it worked.
