Question

I've read through a bunch of the articles section as well as the newbie section, I believe in magic and being a Christian I though I'd ask about a certain question stuck in my mind. Is magic a sin or can it be used for good as well as what would be a good starter spell for someone like me? Is there anyone more experienced who wouldn't mind mentoring me or should i seek a path on my own?

To be honest as for magick being a sin that would depend on you and what you believe. Nobody can tell you that that's something you need to look inside yourself.

As for what path to follow again that is up to you. Personally I took parts from many different paths and made my own.
Here is a list of the Basics

The basics Tools,Meditation, Visualization, Focus, Moon Phases, Colors, Days, grounding and centering, power flow, Elements, Circle Casting, Charkas

I have wen to church multiple times because my parents force me. Magic is a sin,but there was no reason for it to be. Magic kis the manipulation if energy. Magical is all around us(nature) magick is INSIDE of us(every chemical reaction). That's the way Isis made it and there is nothing we can do to change it.

As sue eloquently said it all depends on your beliefs.
i would just like to add that you dont have to change religion or be wiccan to practice magic which means you can remain christian or whatever religion you choose and still practice magic. There are many magical miracles in the bible and in every religious book that should make you dig deep to find out wether magic is a sin or not.
Just like everything in life magic has a light and a dark side there are people who cast spells and dedicate their practice towards healing protection and prosperity while others choose the hexing and cursing and death spells route.
no jugment to any but again this will be up to you to devide what u think is appropriate what you consider for the greater good and what you consider sin.
now for your question about what spell to cast, this has to be a personal desivcion it has to be something you connect to somethibg you need etc.... so figure out your path what you wish to accomplish and never stop reading and learing :)
love and blessings

magick and Christianity can go together. youll have to make your own decisions about straddling paradoxes. but if you cut through the fear and the nonsense it comes down to intention.

if you want to get closer to god, deity, or divinity, ...whatever...there are paths in magick that can do that.

don't be surprised to find a lot of people on both "sides of the fence" who will tell you otherwise or may be negative. You do what you need to do to bring yourself closer to deity and just be open to the fact that's lots options abound but your intent is what will ultimately guide you.

The bible is a spell book with lots of "filler", so magick is not a sin. A good starter spell is Psalm number 4. That is if you are intent on using only Abrahamic spells.

Magic is a sin only if you use it like one
P.S. the Church shouldn't be the ones to talk about sins cause its like they forgot what masacers they did in the middle ages they have killed mor people thin cancer and heart attacks combined (I'm not saying that I don't like Christians just the church's in general)

According to certain writings, Solomon was given magical knowledge as well as control over demons by God's archangel(s). However, there are passages in the books of the Law against witchcraft and familiar spirits. I agree that it's intention that counts - I think it's more important to follow the spirit of the Law than the letter. As far as I remember the Apostle Paul says much the same thing (about the spirit of the Law) in the New Testament.

As long as you're not following gods other than Yahweh I think you can still consider yourself a Christian. Following other gods would take you down a different path, there are many here who do so. But just the fact that Solomon was given magical knowledge by God, imho, means that magic is part of God's works and as such Christians are allowed to use it. Also yeah you can make the case that all the prayers, curses, blessings etc. are all types of magic.
