Hello, I'm looking for some information on dieties in regards to healing.
I have a problem with drug addiction, and im going to have to go through a painful withdrawal process to start to get better, and im trying to figure out if there is any dieties that could possible help me/give me strength.
It doesn't really matter what magical system they are a part of, i think my philosophy tends towards chaos magic so im comfortable to use any and all systems(not at once of course). I am a newbie, but my thoughts were to do a ritual/make a sigil, or maby try and empower an object that i always have on me.
I'v done some research on healing dieties but the descriptions are always quite vague, i doubt i'll find a god or spirit in charge with drug addiction but if anyone knows anything that might be good for this situation in one way or another, could use the help. Thanks.
I really like your idea of making a sigil for it. that would be so empowering given your circumstances as you would be taking direct control of your intent and giving it its own life.
offhand, Tyr might be a good one due to his fearlessness and self control. He did put his hand into the mouth of the Fenris wolf knowing the sacrifice he would have to make. He is in the Norse tradition.
Hagith is an angel that helps those addicted according to the Arbatel grimoire. There is a sigil for him in that book as well.
I wish you a most sincere successful journey in your recovery and hope that friends of Bill will be there for you during this time.
Being apart of the Greek pantheon, I would suggest Apollo in your journey to healing. but if you're looking for strength, Athena has got your back on that.
I'd suggest respectfully approaching Dionysos. While he may seem like a contradiction, being the god of wine and general intoxicants, he is a liberator and breaker of drug dependence. He's not very gentle about it however.
Otherwise there's a book I've seen around called Celtic Queen Maeve and Addiction: An Archetypal Perspective, by Sylvia Brinton Perera. While it appears to be more of a psychoanalyst text there may be some useful stuff in there.
I personally suggest Ullr, Eir, Loki, Dionysus, or.. Well that's about all I can think of, maybe Angrbodea.
All but Dionysus are Norse; Ullr is a hunter god, also a deity usually sworn by for oaths. Also single combat, which can be a "fight against your addiction"
Eir is the Aesir Norse goddess of healing, so that is just a given. (She may not be Aesir, but I'm fairly certain)
Loki, well Loki is a shapeshifting god for one (a fire-etin) and as those to two things are under giant; combined with whom he is you get a god that will "burn away and change you to rid yourself of addiction".
Dionysus is the Greek god of wine, as someone else said he is used for breaking out of it.
Angrbodea is the Norse Hag of Ironwood, hag is in fact a term of respect in this retrospect. She's basically a wolf goddess, if you are not tough enough for her and she won't work with you, don't push it.
Give whomever you decide on an offering. Norse gods, that is mead, an action in their name, or a specific item to them. I'll let you do some research, as you should read about which deity you choose.
Now for the sigil I suggest runes naturally, but when you go about this, again I would choose a god, an offering then wait a day or so, create your sigil and when you imbue it say something like "as I give to you, I ask for your help, please put your strength and energy into this to help me." Nice and simple, but too generic; if you could fill the blanks?
Runes: Naudhiz, necessity, it can be used as the power of a need, which you can use to break your addiction.
Eihwaz, this rebirth/death as in the death of your drug addiction and rebirth of you.
Uruz, for strength to go through this.
Put these together for a bind-rune and ta da.
Mail me if you have any questions.
I think Shadow did good by suggesting Angrboda. She's a very tough deity, but what sh teaches is worth it. She teaches inner strength, and can give you the power to pull through this tough trial in your life. Working with her can strengthen you, mentally, to help you to avoid the drugs you're addicted to.
I normally wouldn't suggest it, but Fenrir might not be a bad option for you either. Fenrir is Loki's wolf-son, and a deity in his own right. He teaches people to look at the darkest, most negative parts of themselves and come to terms with it. He teaches that just because we have those parts, we are not bad people, and that we can live a life to the full as long as we recognize that those parts are there and accept them as pieces of ourselves. You might find this helpful along the process as well.
Angrboda and Fenrir work exceptionally well together, since Angrboda is Fenrir's mother. So the two of them might make for a good combination for you.
That would be ASKLEPIOS (or Asclepius) for the Greek God of Healing and Medicine. Information on him can be found at http://www.theoi.com/Ouranios/Asklepios.html
Thanks everyone for the thoughts and ideas, I'm initialy drawn to the idea of hagith as i like angel/demon systems, i downloaded the Arbatel and am going through it.
I'm also curious about the nordic pagan systems to, i will be researching any and all names that people mention. I'd like to work with something thats abit more on the gentle side as i don't think i can take any extra harshness(even if its in my best interest) during the withdrawal phase. But i will research them and keep them in mind for afterwords when i need to start building up my strength.
