Hello, I'm new to this and I'm willing to learn everything that I can. Is there any advice anyone would share with a beginner?

Research is going to be your friend, and if you want to do good research, you'll cross reference with verified sources. Expose yourself to different practices, paths, and beliefs and start going more in-depth with what interests you. Don't take any oaths you are not ready for.

If you're going for spell or ritual work, allow time for manifestation, be specific, but don't micro manage. An example of this would be working a ritual for helping you get a job within the next month, rather than wanting a job on the 20th of April at 8:00 PM. There is a saying that the Gods don't help those who don't help themselves (though this can be adapted to any belief), so if you work that ritual for a job, you'll still have to put in applications, keep your phone charged and with you, and be professional at interviews.

If you are going for energy flow and direction, start by realizing that you are a part of a much larger picture. Go outside if you can and feel the wind, the soil, and the whisper of the trees and realize that there is energy within everything. I personally find it much easier to teach energy sensing this way than to try and create energy constructs right away. What you sense with energy will be your physical body and subconscious' way of interpreting energy (like we interpret any physical sensation before we actually feel it), so there will be physical explanations for why you are feeling a certain way. Trust your intuition and if you experience something 'more' than physical reality, you'll know it. You just have to learn how to recognize it.

If you are going for divination forms, there are two major types to consider; interpretation of circumstance and tools and psychic capability.

  • Augury was originally the interpretation of birds' movements, sounds, and behaviors, but has expanded to include the general interpretation of omens. These interpretation will be different in each society, culture, and even people.
  • Tarot is a common divination system utilizing tools and can even be done without the belief in anything spiritual as it utilizes random cards placed in various positions that force you to look at a situation from a different angle. It is a part of cartomancy and there are plenty other cards you can use with this kind of divination, including Oracle and playing cards, to name some of the most common.
  • This type of divination relies solely on psychic capability and involves practices such as scrying, remote viewing, and reading the energy of a situation, person, place, or object. Developing psychic capability in this manner will involve sensing energy and opening the mind to different realities. It is said that the subtle planes of existence don't have the same bounds of time and space, so it is not unheard of to be able to read something far away or know something as it is happening, before it happens, or after it happens. If you'd like more explanations on different terms concerning these, simply ask.

If you are going for practices that do not involve conscious energy sensing, flow, and direction, you can look at different 'laws' of subtle reality, such as Sympathetic Magick. This is commonly described as 'As above, so below', the microcosm reflecting the macrocosm, and symbolic action. Some examples that utilize this are pouring water over crops to help bring rain, keeping a coin on you that attracts more money, or binding a poppet that represents a person.

There are many, many practices out there and these only barely scrape the surface.
