Can you buy pendulums that double as necklaces? That way you can carry it with you everywhere and when people see it they just think it's a cool pendant until you use it. Also, it's convenient, practical, has has another use. I was just wondering because I'd love to have a pendulum, but I don't want to have to deal with what some of my family would think/say and I also don't want to lose it. Also, is a pendul easy to use? Because I would like to learn how to use one and how to do scrying and other things you use pendulums for. (I honestly want to learn and study all aspects of positive magick and such.)
Pendulums in magic are used through the ideometer effect in reflexology. Your hands moved it and it is effected by tiny muscle spasms in your hands that are effected by your subconscious which could be using this to express collected data from magical or non magical sources. So in that case any waited object on a string should do. Having a pretty shiny pendulum is nice but you could really use anything even if it's and ordinary necklace. Want to test this just tie any weighted object to a sting and just think move sideways, or rotate clockwise, counter clockwise, etc...
My personal opinion is this...When using a Pendulum you first as whoever you use (I use Archangel Michael) which way is Yes and which way is No. I have found through using different Pendulums the directions do change. So in some ways I must disagree which the other person. Like I said this is My Own Personal Opinion.
Of course you could use one that doubles as a necklace! If anything, it would help to add a bit of your energy to it. I use mine like Sue said, asking which direction means yes and no. Then I ask the spirit I work with a question. People have other ways of using them as well.
If you buy a pendulum you like, you can easily remove it with pliers, leaving the first large hoop and slip it onto a chain or cord to wear around your neck. Be sure it is a smaller pendulum. Some can be quite heavy and would break around your neck or just plainly be uncomfortable and bulky. Also most crystal point or gemstone sphere pendants can be used. Remember, the first pendulums were a rock on a string. I've also used a ring on a strand of hair. That's when you really come unprepared! LOL The possibilities are virtually endless.
Not everything works well, some just move better than others, and generally differently depending on the people that use them. I had a pendulum that I hated because it would barely move. I said it was "shy". I gave it to my husband (boyfriend then) it swung like mad for him! And my favorite one, that is smaller and lighter, barely moves for him. .
Instead of saying "this is yes, and this is no", I suggest asking "yes?" "no?" and see how it swings.
Okay thank you ^.^ and what Outcast said about it moving by your subconscious sounds a lot like a ouji board (your mind moves your hands the way you think it'll go most the time without you knowing it). And it's good to know that a lot of things on strings will work, thank you.
I just tested out a necklace I always wear (it's in the shape of an arrowhead which is why I thought of this) and it worked. I got so excited. So I'm just going to use that as a pendulum when learning how to work with one until I can get one and decide if I want an actual pendulum. The necklace holds a special meaning to me as well and I've worn it quite a lot since I've gotten it, so that could be part of why it seemed to work so quickly. Anyways, thank you.
