Precognition is the ability to foresee future events in yourdreams. Sometimes this can be quite painful for the viewer because it can be negative things that you are dreaming about. But also it makes them happy at times because of positive dreaming. From herein I will be calling the dreaming, visions.
Now, this is where the debate comes in. Some people say that what you see in your visions, will absolutely happen, and others only say sometimes. I, from personal experience, can say that only about a quarter of what I see, actually comes to be. Again, from personal experience, whenever a vision is hazier, meaning looks more like a dream than a vision, it is less likely to come, but when it is clearer, it is more likely to come. I can't say if this is the same for other people, as I have never asked, and also everyone's mind is different, so it is likely it is not the same.
I am not your normal psychic. I have been blessed with a few gifts. I do not mean to gloat, so please don't take it like that. I will say the things I am that have to do with future seeing: I am a clairvoyant, and a precognition. Some people call people with precognition, precog's to shorten it. When I was younger, I was more a precog than anything else. But as my mind has matured over the years, I am more a clairvoyant, and clairaudient. I will admit I have never had an easy life. In fact, for the most part, it has been downright crap. From herein I will call precognition night visions, and clairvoyant/audient visions. When I started having night visions, I was very scared. They were always extremely vivid. Like I was awake. The thing is, you can't really go to therapy for this. You can try and talk to someone who has the same problem as you, or someone who has gotten over that hurdle.
I got over that hurdle by shielding myself. This is generally a thing you learn and can do quickly. It is keeping that shield in place. The vividness slowly went away, then I almost never got a night vision again. I still get one about once a year, and they have always proven to be right.
Generally people are born a psychic, but I have heard and seen a lot of people, supposedly, teaching or training them self to be one. I have never heard, or seen anything like it in all of my years, and plus while reading old philosophies and whatnot. So I highly doubt this is true, but I have been proven wrong before.
100% of what I see comes true. Been this way since I was 8. Now 40. My frustration is sometimes it's crystal clear, sometimes muddled in symbol. And my intuition is honed, although I don't heed it as much as I should.

Nobody, repeat nobody, can foretell or "see" the future.But a "prediction" is quite common.
For instance I will predict a few things right now.
On this very day, somewhere in the world, a volcano will erupt,it will rain, there will be a drought.A man, woman or child (or all three!) will be shot dead.An automobile will crash; a train will crash, an aeroplane will crash.Many people will die; many people will be born.
These are predictions, not "seeing" the future.If you dream about a future event it is merely that! A dream!
My abilities have nothing to do with others. I see my own future, but I have seen into others' lives to who I am close. Nothing so Broad/ vast as predicting the future of Mankind.
I have actually had several dreams that have come true. Unfortunately these visions are of simple every day life. I have never had a vision of any earth shattering events. I do not remember most of my dreams and sometimes I do not even remember the visions until they have started coming true. Example: A friend once wanted to take a local ferry ride which I had never done, so we thought it would be fun to try something new. When we started to get close to the ferry location, I started to remember a dream I had several months before. I told my friend about the dream I had and stated that in the dream, the ferry ride cost twice the amount we thought it should. She laughed and stated that she had checked the prices before leaving and she new the exact amount. When we get there, the price she had received was only for one way and that a round trip would be double.
I have also had dreams of presents I would receive for my birthday (never presents for any other events). One was a tattoo and the other was a cell phone. Some may call it coincidence but I truly believe that I have seen the future. I just wish I had more control over these things. My visions are very rare. Does anyone know how to control visions?
I don't think that people are training themselves to be 'psychic' per se, as much as training themselves to be more open to their already instilled abilities that they tuned out previously.
Personally, I dream things that have come to life but not always how I dream it. Usually very similar but things or people are missing in the situation.
This sort of thing happened once when I was 4(I'm 15 now).On Christmas Eve I dreamt that one of my gifts that I opened(in the morning) was a Daisy rifle.But I woke up early and opened it before hand it still was a Daisy rifle but the timing was different.
i have been severely cursed/blessed (?) with prophetic dreams and precognition (I call it the spirit of discernment). the dreams that come true are almost always very important. usually what happens is i'll just be having a typical nightmare and then in the middle of the dream there will be a big clear message that has nothing to do with the plot of the dream. another thing that came with my spirit of discernment is to get a strong and recognizable pain when something horrible is going to happen. i also get a feeling when something awful is happening somwhere else, for example, with my sister in a different state. when I was a child i even used to hear a loud noise that no one else could hear when something bad was happening somewhere else in the neighborhood. it's very hard living with this because sometimes i'll get an intrusive thought and i spend hours worrying if it means something :(
