Definitely not. There is many books, forums, etc about working with Hecate, for example. Including one, that explain days of working, types of food that you can offer, including how to create sacred places to make the offerings. Not all entity require animals sacrifice, its some old tradition perhaps, but I never saw this for Hecate. You can offer including some herbs.

The risk is always created by the intention of the magician. If you put hate in your work, you'll probably give and receive bad energy. Did you not heard why she is called the triple goddess ("Mother, Maiden, and Crone").

About the books:
HEKATE: Keys to the Crossroads by Sorita D'Este and some coven members
(I am also a member of their forum, so you can find much more information in there. The book includes recipes, rites, rituals, planetary tables, etc)

Hecatean Magick by B Morlan, but this one is usually recommended for demonolaters and "blood workers" because our mixed pantheon.

There's nothing that says that you must perform animal sacrifice. Most people nowadays don't do it since it's sort of frowned upon. Instead, food or drink is often offered to the gods. Votive offerings and offerings of service are also common. For specific deities, you could always read up on lore about the deity or ask her yourself to see what she likes.

When I first started out I felt extremely connected to Hecate. The thing is you can't fear the goddess you work with, it sends out negative energy. Anyways Hecate is mostly feared because yes she does have a dark side it's not evil,it's dark because she has seen the light and dark, and she is extremely powerful because of this. Hecate's sybols are as followers (the moon also sybolized as maiden, mother, crone) ( keys for she has seen and been in every place) (dogs, and snakes) (A stick with fire on it (torches) she is seen to have these when she helps demeter find persephone in the underworld)

So no you dont ever give animal sacrifices!!! It's against mother narure and depending on what religion you are following it may be against that. So you can use herbs, or make tea or water and leave it out under a full moon. Search up books and use the internet.

There is no problem, or I didn't find any until today. I did not expected to work with Hecate, since my pantheon / path is quite different from this. You just need to know very well each entity / god/goddess that you're working, to not make something disrespectful, so, then you would perhaps have a problem (sometimes its just ignored). About sacrifice, you really shouldn't to do any kind of animal sacrifice when working with her.
