Empath?

What is an empathy? And how do you know if you are one, if you have been called one?

Empathy is the gift (it can be a curse sometimes) Of being sensitive to peoples energy. Empaths can pick up on peoples energy and emotions more easily than others can. Despite what someone looks like on the outside, an empath can pick up on what they are really feeling. For example, my friend looks really happy. I start a conversation with her and know shes really upset even though she looks and sounds happy. Empaths just know. I have the gift of empathy and its a hard one at that.

Is it normal of an empathy to become whatever they are watching or reading? Like say, you pick up a book, and you read about a main character, but as you progress through said book, you notice that you have adopted traits from said character. And therefore become a character, and if this is normal or even possible is there a possibility that it can become where you no longer know yourself?

I've been investigating the line between inspiration and gnosis, too, so in principle it isn't that far fetched, but unfortunately a lot of actualy Kinfolk individuals have earned the flack that they get for being fake.
