Contributor question

I read a thread about one year old about a contributor and points. Why are there points? What are these points?

The Point System is invisible, it calculates your contributions to the site, if they are spammy points are deducted, if you they aren't then you gain points, this is for the Membership of "Contributor".

It's not the quantity of the posts that is important, it's the quality of them and how much they add to the actual knowledge of the site.
