Hey guys, I was wondering. Who would be interested in a GLBT coven on here? Ardor and I were thinking of working on one, so please respond if you are interested.
Personally, I wouldn't join, but it seems like a curious idea. Although I don't know what GLBT has to do with Magick, it could possibly unite a bunch of similar minded people.
I myself am not gay bi or transexual but i am against gay bullying and i think its a great idea that gays and bis have there own place what a great idea
As much as I support GLBT, I do not think it would be a suitable coven on SoM, if you asked me. Just a coven with people alike? In my opinion, covens are supposed to teach a variety of different subjects relating them to the coven. Sorry to be a downer.
What if it taught on spiritual mysteries for the GLBT minded such as Gay Tantra, twin spirited work and the like? Surely that would be something of worth. Just an idea.
I agree with Wish, although unestablished covens rarely make it far here, the concept if handled right isn't such a bad idea.
GLBT inquires a certain lifestyle, and includes new variations of paths, there is also history to such a topic.
I believe a GLBT coven could have some potential with serious leaders who know their way around magic and history.
Well yes, I figured it would be a gathering place for those that have similar experiences/interests. It might not have anything specifically to do with magick, but that might even be a benefit because we will all bring our different magick experience to the table. Also, GLBT coven would be able to address some of specific gender/sexuality related questions people might have. For example, those that follow Wicca might find its gender polarity a bit uncomfortable.
Personally, I feel inept to lead this group, so if anyone is an experienced High Priest(ess) let me know ^_^
I don't understand the purpose of the need of separation.
We could go on the theory of anyone not from the GLBT community doesn't understand the difficulty of not only being part of the community, but incorporating magick into everyday life, but the same could be said for anyone. If it's off site, right on. Have fun with it. But if it's being petitioned to be on site I wonder where it will stop because you could easily make one for specific genders or race.
The point of a coven is to find the similarities among everyone and see how we are all connected, be supportive of the rest of your coven family, help where you can, learn what you can, ect. Magick can be worked and applied regardless of sexual orientation. It's as simple as being a little more creative and doing what feels right to you instead of doing it "by the book".
Personally, I know many members of the GLBT community who are pagan, in covens, in groups, ect (offline) and not a single one I have met has ever been in a coven of the sort, nor had any difficulty with the covens they were in as far as learning, applying or being part of that family.
I just think the pagan community (especially the online witches and newbies) needs to find more reasons to come together, not find more reasons to separate themselves from each other.
Although I see that the glue in a coven should be magickal interest, I understand that members may benefit from a group where they feel they can be themselves, without having to answer awkward questions or feel pressured into explaining themselves. However, the group is about fighting discrimination, so surely creating a seperate group is missing the point of inclusion? xx
