Candles

If I am conducting a spell and it calls for a certain color candle but I feel it would be more effective with a different color can I change it as I see fit or will that cause the spell to be unstable?

Change it. Candles just help focus energy, they are not needed for the spell itself. Just change it to the one you see fit.

When using any of the magical correspondences, such as candle colors, what is most important is how that correspondence resonates with you. As an example, a green candle might typically be used for a prosperity spell, but perhaps for you a yellow candle to represent gold might work better. And of course a white candle can always be substituted for another color.

So if you think a different color might be more effective, then it probably will be as it is in alignment with your thoughts. I would say go ahead and use the color that feels right to you. I doubt it would have any sort of negative effect on your spell if you do it that way.

I have only white candles, but they are not magickaly charged! Will my spells still work?

White candles are just fine. They will become magically charged when you put the energy to power the spell into them.
