If one is too poor to afford something, i.e a cauldron, what could one use as a substitute that wouldn't mess up the spell?

Well. You don't need a cauldron. A safe place for fire would be okay. Like a fireplace or something like that. And then use bowls or cups for any spells including water.

a cauldron is used for heating and mixing items, i've practised for 10 years and have never used a cauldron. it's nice to have, but not mandatory. look at the spell in question and try to find a substitute.

You can pretty much use whatever tools you have on hand but like they mentioned above, anywhere safe to use fire would work even a pot from the kitchen. I've seen many articles on this on various sites and some books as well.

You can use anything that is fire proof. Same thing for other things, stones, candles, and some other things.
