Ok so, I know that when doing spells, the candle colors have certain meanings and uses. What about patterns, such as stripes? Do patterned candles have any meaning or use or are they just for decoration?

That's actually a really good question, I suppose it would depend on the colours of the stripes? The pattern might make a difference as well, but the significance could be mainly up to you; for instance spiral stripes down the length of the candle could either be pulling spiral energy in or sending it out, depending on your own visualisation, also there's some room to be cute about it as well, such as star patterns/shaped candles for wishing spells, loveheart pattern for love attraction etc. If that kind of lighthearted imagery suits your craft style then it could really help boost the power of a spell.

From what I know it is mainly the colours that matter, two colours that represent polar opposites will simply not work, but similar colours ot colours that correspond with your intent work best.
I suppose vertical stipes could be sending something out, while horizontal stripes could mean stopping something. I suppose it all depends on what you correspond with each pattern.
I'm curious to know what kind of pattern of stripes your questioning. Are there multiple, tiny ones, or 3-4? And is it the wax itself that is striped, or is the jar?
I've worked with candles that had 3 layers of different colors, which were all coordinated with a banishing ritual. The top was black for banishing, the middle color represented what I corresponded as what I wanted to banish, and the bottom color was blue for healing. There are also two layered candles that can be used for banishing a hex/curse, undo a spell, etc.
But just as H20 said about the colors needing to be correspondent when attracting..
But black is more appropriate when banishing, plus the color you choose to correspond what it is you wish to banish.
I was just using stripes as an example, actually. I asked this because I have 2 black and white harlequin print candles, and I was wondering if I could get any use out of them other than Halloween decorations.
Yes they could be used. It's actually up to the caster which candles he will choose to use. Apart from the colors it is reccomended that they are organic, hand made and cleanced before and after the ritual. If the candle has different colors on it or stripes as you mentioned, it could be enefitial since in some cases the combination of colors is required in order for a ritual to be more successful. For instance white can be used in combination with other colors to purify or black to fight negative energy.
