So a while ago I had talked to someone on the site about the spirit I work with when I was under a different name(complications with someone harassing me caused me to deactivate and make a new account). They, in a nut shell, said he needed to heal.
It feels like he's getting stronger, so I was curious of how to tell if a spirit is getting stronger or healing(if they can heal or get stronger at least, I may be misinterpreting because I can't access the original message anymore so I apologize if I just said something stupid).
All beings have the potential of becoming stronger. The easiest way to tell if a spirit is getting stronger or weaker is by how they manifest themselves. A strong spirit will have no issues with being able to announce their presence, whether it be by making a noise, chilling a room, or even actually hurting you or giving you a certain feeling. Whereas a weaker spirit will very seldom show themselves, because they lack the energy to do so, and often times when they DO manifest themselves, they won't again for quite some time. Seeing an increase in activity from a particular spirit is the easiest way to see if they've grown in power.
The same way you would make a human weaker. Vampirizing them. I am pretty positive there are plenty of other methods, though binding the spirit you want to weaken seems like a good start.
As for the power-presence of an entity, it depends. I agree that spirits that have a stronger presence are, generally speaking, stronger, but this is because they have a good connection to this world. If they don't have good connections to this world, and you go meet them on the astral plane, they could still prove to be strong.
A good example is how the Loa are so much stronger than normal godforms, even though in the astral, they are probably on par with them, but the Loa are from this Earth, and have been on this Earth for a long long long time, and fueled by things like the Haitian Revolution, that their devotion links to this world are stronger than for most gods.
Even though Vodoun would have almost no effect if you were on Mars or something.
I've mentioned that there's a difference in an entity's power, and their presence in this world. You can read more about that at the point where I explain blood sacrifice here:

Based on that, I see a difference between increasing the spirit's strength, and increasing the spirit's presence here.
If you want more internal changes, then you don't have to do anything. If they're competent, they're strong enough, just meet them in the astral and they'll help you. If you genuinely want to increase their power for whatever reason(you really love them, or they're your spouse, sibling, parent, or you made them, etc.) then they'll have to take the same routes to power as you will. Which is to say, get more energy, and apply that energy.
In this sense, they can increase their powers through mergings, pacts, possessions, feedings, leylines...however, if the spirit is worth it, they either don't need it or will grow naturally.
To increase their presence, and by extent bringing more direct, swift, strong, material, external goals, is a matter of forging devotion chains. How you forge these is entirely up to you.
You may choose to set up a small area where you can venerate them. Get some idols, or the likes and give regular offerings. Offerings ground them. One heartfelt idol in your simple temple will do more than entire temples of blind worshipers. Depending on how dormant they are, this may either completely bring them here, wake them up, or just barely catch your attention.
Research deeply, and perform the operations as closely adhering the systems as you can. There will be time to shed the formalities once you are closer.
Quite honestly, one thing that never fails is a human sacrifice, though I can see why you may not be interested in that.
There's tons of ways, and I'm sure you can think of one once you understand ''the gist'' of it.
Remember, it is the mountain stream that carries fresh, life-giving water because it flows out. However, the swamp is stagnant and life-devouring. A swamp collects and retains water that comes its way. Dont be the kind of person who seeks to accumulate much before allowing a little to flow through.
