How much get's labelled as fluff?
How much is actually ignorance?
How much is an agenda to maintain a status quo?
How much is actually fluff?
Is any information limited from changing hands because of risk of being labelled as fluff?
In the general sense, we have a lot of young kids here that seriously dont mean any harm, Hollywood has planted so many ideas in their heads, they join up so excited to be on the road to being a witch or wizard, their little hearts get broken once they find out the limits and way magick really happenes
Then we have adults who somehow believe things still not possible
But there is another group on here who throw the term impossible around way to much, these people are usually very well read
Know the basics and practice some work here and their but nothing happenes, nothing happenes because they dont know how to apply the keys read in books into real world actions
So they become Armchair magicians, bitter that they cant make magicm happen so they tell everyone else what they can not do to make themselves feel better.
I agree with the other reply, a lot has to do with perspective as well and what you personally believe in.
Some are more book smart, some believe in legends. While there is no scientific proof that faeries and werewolves exist and becoming one is unlikely (I won't say impossible) people still strongly believe in them for their own reasons. For someone to say "You can't grown fairy wings, it is impossible to change your DNA" this statement is true. You can't grown wings from a spell. You can however meditate and place yourself in a dream state where you can fly. Its all in how you view things. The line that is most difficult is the line of reality. While we can not do what is shown in Hollywood movies because it is in the end, a work of fiction, we can view it all differently.
My best example of this is time travel. Can we cast a spell to travel back in time? In reality no we can't. But to say time travel is impossible is untrue. Look at the science world recently. We view the night sky and look out at hundreds of stars. Some are long gone, meaning they no longer exist, yet we are looking back in time at their light. Yes this is all science not magic, but really wouldn't that just be someones viewpoint on the matter?
Just some thoughts on that subject. The only thing fluffy I like in my life is my pillow at night, but to others a little bit of believe in some fluffy subject matter is really their own prerogative and I try not to judge even if I myself don't think someone can grown wings. I don't encourage it, but I won't tell that person they are wrong. Most learn over time what is reality and what isn't, but even with the facts some people still want to believe. I won't stand in their way.
The real keys to magick are in the details left out of books
Secret knowledge is still secret
Books are a major part of it and we learn tons from them
But at some point, we need to hit the ground running and start to practice, just practices with reasonable goals, you can only hold yourself back, spent 5 years trying to grow wings or cause it to snow on the beach in July, that will be 5 years wasted, in that time you could have advanced greatly..The choice is up to us.
I've been thinking of putting together a "Fluffy" grimoire... what I mean by this is a book that will help fluffies get more of what they want by introducing key concepts of magick and how to use them to create "real" magick, and include meditations so they can learn how to do things like channel animal spirits, "become immortal" by learning how to meditate in a single moment of time, etc.. Anybody have any input on that?
People have tried for years to teach the "fluffy" ones what real magick is... Some just refuse to learn. We try to guide the ones who are serious about learning, but there will always be some one believing what isn't real. Sadly, its still their choice as to what they want to believe.
I've noticed these sentiments pretty frequently on this site. It seems a bit arrogant that people claim to know what "real" magick is and that people who don't do it that way are ignorant. That reminds me very much of mainstream religions.
Personally, I have flown through the skies as an eagle, over not just this world but countless others. I've run through the night as a wolf, and I've lived countless thousand lifetimes. These are basic shamanic skills that could very easily be taught to "fluffies" to satisfy their thirst, as long as they are willing to come to the understanding that laws of physics are part of the magickal laws, and as such, the physical, astral, and spiritual plains must stay separate.
Vitriol is not the best way to make people who are interested in magick continue to be interested in magick. If people are being drawn to magick for any reason, it is a shame and a travesty to drive them away from something that could potentially change their life for the better just because their view of it is skewed by every single aspect of the society that they live in.
