I have noticed some articles on here that are simply copy and pasted from other sites.
Is this allowed? I was under the impression that that was illegal. At the very least it is dishonest.
Although, there is the slight chance that the author shared the post on multiple sites.
Isn't there something on here that states that SoM owns the info once it is posted. See # 10 of ToU. So does this mean that SoM owns the info on other sites then too?

Copying of another's work is allowed 70 years after the death of the original author. Otherwise, it is a breach of Copyright, and is a criminal offence.
In any case, one should always quote the source!

Actually that one is all over the place.

Just a few examples..
I have noticed that not just the Coven Articles are all over the place. Some of the featured articles also are.
Are these ever source checked for plagiarism?

I would not be surprised if that were the case. Anyone in Spellcasters and anyone of Council rank or higher in any other coven can add articles to the site. There are too many for the Moderators to check every one and the ones marked "private" in a Coven's spell book are not visible to any Mods not in that Coven. Nor can the Mods remove an article once it is posted. Only the Site Administrator can do that.
The best thing to do if someone finds an article they think is plagiarized, such as the ones listed is to bring them to the attention of Petrarca, the Site Owner.

Sidestepper, whether a work is copied/cut and pasted, or re-written. It is a breach of Copyright. Copyright is not only of the work itself, but of the "idea".

But it can get complicated. Just pasting part of a work could be looked at as a review. Also, it would only be against the Law if the person re-writing or pasting an Article was doing it for money! As an example, if you got up in a Bar and sang a popular song, you would not be in breach of Copyright.
But I was a professional singer; and for every song I sang on-stage I had to pay a fee to The Performing Rights Society. Unless the composer had died 70 years before!
It is not all as simple as it seems. I think you are "looking" for breaches of Copyright.
Never copy and paste, always quote. Even if just using it as an example. And theres no need to copy everything and repost, easier just to add the link. Unless YOU are the original poster then no, its still copyright.
SoM makes money from this site.

Sidestepper, you seem to have a lot of issues with this particular website. If it is so distastevul to you I wonder why you continue to post here.
That being said, many of the topics in which you are bringing up your complaints involve issues that can only be dealt with by the Site Owner/Administrator, Petrarca. Instead of posting one disgruntled post after another, why don't you simply send an e-mail to Petrarca with your concerns. He's the only one who is going to be able to "fix" the issues you are upset about.
