Do you enjoy hot baths? Do you enjoy using herbs and bath salts to create a relaxing atmosphere while bathing? Learn how to make bath bags to use and try them next time you feel like you need a good soak.

Making the Bath Bag

Start by selecting which herb (or collection of herbs) you want to use. Pick something that you find to be relaxing or to have properties you want to include. You will need to acquire cheesecloth to wrap the herbs in or a stringed muslin bag: use as much or as little as you feel is potent enough (though a cup at most tends to be fine - make sure it all actually fits into whatever you use to hold it).

Begin to fill the tub with only warm water. Place the bundle directly under the faucet as you do this, so the water passes through the herbs. Once the water is at a high enough level, allow it to steep for several minutes. Squeeze the bag dry and either a) discard it, b) throw it in your laundry to add a pleasant smell or c) keep it for whatever other purposes you might have with it.

If you want to add to these bags, you can choose to include a mixture of herbs, bath salts and essential oils for stronger smells and the additive of other properties. :) Happy bathing.

Suggested Blend Combinations

  • Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Peppermint, Spearmint
  • Passion flower, Chamomile, Lavender, Mugwort
  • Jasmine, Chamomile, Lemongrass, Rose petals, Orange peel, Pink salt

Do you know of those bath bombs that places like Lush sells, for example? I wonder if there is anyway to make one that fizzles up like that but in a less of a chemical way?

And this is super cool... imagine all the smelly possibilities
