Generally, you just need to be cleansed and have a plan in mind.

Oh, also, divination is generally in order before venturing into a working. Otherwise, you could do a lot of work to no avail because God wills it not to work, which will be evident with prior divination

You could cleanse and draw before doing a working. By draw, I mean anointing yourself with some type of prosperity oil, lotion, or powder. Cleansing can strip away things, so it's best to draw back all the desirable stuff. After that, do a little something for protection, such as another sprinkle.

Before a working, you could pray or chant for victory and success with the work. Then, do the work. If it's a curse, repeating the cleansing process or waiting until after the curse is a good idea. Keeping it covered would also help.

Divination could be done just before the work, or some time before planning it out. As Misty said, it's to ensure success. It could also help see if additional work would be needed, decide whether the curse is justified, and any other advice before planning out the work.

You can add things to the process if it helps. Cleansing puts people into a good state of mind for performing spiritual works, and you could meditate after a cleansing. However, it's an addition to the traditions as far as I know. You can design your own rite based on what we've said. Look into everything we've said, different ways to go about it, and then you can start forming your own method. Build a foundation of tradition, then build upon it with your own style.

Divination should always be preformed I often have a road opener candle burning on my altar sometimes while I am doing a condition or before.
