I have a question regarding Wiccan belief. I'm told by a lot of people that Wicca is Satanic and I think that's false. We don't worship Satan and evil sprits, we call upon Mother Earth and the angels. And besides, "if it does no harm, do your own will", correct? So what are your thoughts?
Wicca has been blackened by the church. The church wanted to have power over all the people. The best way to control people is to keep them stupid, and hide the truth from them. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying the church is evil. It is the people that can be evil or good. Doing your own will and listen to your heart, is always good. Let nobody convince you of something else!
The above is entirely correct. Wicca has nothing to do with Satanism.
However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Satanists, either, nor do all Satanists worship Satan. LaVeyan Satanism is atheistic, and has a moral code that would be considered quite reasonable by society's standards.
Christianity is a fear-based belief system. They use fear to create power for themselves. When the Roman Empire first took Christianity as the state religion, they sent their soldiers around the land to kill the leaders of any churches with differing religions.
This is also why the Bible condemns magick. If they could get people to believe that they would go to hell for practicing magick, they would gain more power because more people would flee to the church so they wouldn't go to hell.
I was just recalling to my dad yesterday how as a child I was told that Wiccans were my enemies who worshipped Satan. When I first Googled "Wicca" I was scared thinking I'd go to hell just for being curious.
I love Wicca though. I'm much happier celebrating differences rather than condemning them.
And I don't mean anything bad to the Church, I grew up in it after all. I just don't agree with everything about it.
Fear is the most primal human reaction. Fear triggers a direct response in the human brain, by-passing logical thinking. So always be aware if people are telling you to fear something.
Furthermore:
Be carefull telling people that you are studying wicca. People are afraid of everything that is different. I had a lot of troubles in my youth because I could see and do things that others couldn't.
i had a conversation once with my friend who is a youth minister and i asked her 'honestly, do you think i'm evil because i'm wiccan?' and she responded by saying while she thinks i have the best intentions, i'm being fooled by the devil. i may not think it's really the devil, but if i follow any deity beyond the christian god, it's the devil in disguise.
that was a real eye opening moment for me, there is no devil in the craft, and we can tell people until we're blue in the face, but at the end of the day anything not christian = evil in their eyes. yes, it is an old stereotype from ancient times witches work with the devil, and most people will understand if you explain the fact we don't believe in the devil, heaven, or hell, but there will still be those devout groups who believe anyone not following their path is wrong [be they misguided, evil, or a combination] you simply need to know when to walk away, when to keep quiet, and when to listen. we only have so much energy every day, so it shouldn't be wasted on pointless tasks such as arguing with someone who refuses to listen.
It does not take a skilled sorcerer to figure out that by meshing Satanic and Wiccan energies, you don't get harmony, completion, or even a smidge of complementarity.
The two patterns and currents are both very different. Not opposite, maybe counterbalancing, but profoundly different.
From a Christian perspective where everything but their magic(which they deny is magic in the first place) is demonism, and all idols are demons in disguise, suuuure.
But spirits are about as varied and as complex as people are, most of the time much more than people are.
