otherkin is more of a spiritual thing were the otherkin have shifts to what other kin type they are usually phantom limbs are one shift thats most commonly experienced but doesnt make you other kin unless you feel somewhat unhuman ive felt like i had a pair phantom wings before and at point felt unhuman but im not sure that constitues being otherkin
Most sensible Otherkin believe that you can only astrally shift, as in shift the way your spirit appears on the astral planes. Every time physical shifting is brought up anywhere in any context it creates a whirlwind of pointless site drama where everyone loudly exclaims their views and no one is convinced, so I'll avoid that. Phantom limbs are commonly mentioned as being experienced by Otherkin, but that is not the only cause necessarily, so I'd suggest you research it.
@megitsune
On your profile you say you will speak up if you see anyone being rude, yet here you are, being rude. Otherkin/Therian are believed in by plenty of people who are sensible, skilled, rational casters. The ancient legends from our world have many stories of humans who were not completely human, and many witches regularly interact with the Gods and Spirits from those tales. Is the belief in Otherkin really such a stretch, when the same tales that support our magic speak of beings like them?
Yes, I have met cringey Otherkins. I have also met cringey Wiccans, cringey Heathens, cringey traditional witches, and cringey people of every walk of life. But often it is the person, not the belief. Do the Wiccans who shove religions together without any thought mean the ones who are not are stupid? There are racist heathens, does this mean that the many who are not are cringey as well? There are many paths in magic, and if you want to mention science disproving Otherkin, science pretty much believes no form of witchcraft exists.
If you want to disagree with Otherkin? Fine. Go for it. Everyone has a right to disagree with whatever they want to. But disagreements of any kind should be respectful, and at least discussed, not just name calling.
How am I being rude when I am stating what otherkin is defined as? I've did my research and all I could get was that definition no matter where I looked. If I'm "rude" for stating the definition of something then by all means don't look it up cause you may find something worse than what I've put.
After a doing a little bit more research on this site(don't know how accurate it is) I found out that more serious otherkin don't really think they can shapeshift or think that they are non human beings on the physical plane but in the astral plane. It's the inexperienced/non serious people who think that they are animals or that they can shapeshift in the physical plane. So, my apologies. Though, most I've seen are the nonserious cringey ones.
Apologies accepted, and sorry if I came off too harsh. There are many nonserious ones, sadly, and because of them many of the serious ones avoid talking about it entirely. Because of the perception of the stupid ones, many people give the belief a bad name and decry it wherever it is found. I was just trying to show that the belief in them isn't only held by idiots, and in and of itself is not so far fetched.
I don't see myself as 'Otherkin', in part because of what stigma follows the term. However, I certainly the description of one, LOL. I don't feel 'human' any more than a dog or shrimp is human. It could be because of my Shamanic training. I just feel more animal than human, specifically dinosaurian. Do I believe I can shape shift into what I am? Only on the astral. I can feel it's power flow through me when I shape shift, but I never expect to physically be what I feel I am.
