Hi, im new to this site, Ive been practicing herb magic since I was a child (I was just playing the though back then I think) but have since had more and more success with spells. My question is this: If I tell someone about a spell that worked will the spell lose its power or worse, break? The person I feel like telling is a dear friend who I used to practice magic with though now I practice alone and not too often. The spell was not about her and it had a very positive outcome. I would love to hear anyone's opinion and/or experience with this.
Spells have been passed down through family and shared for ages. You can easily go to a book store and purchase a real Grimoire with the author's own spells and cast them successfully. Although many believe your Book of Shadows should be kept a secret, purely becuase it is suppose to be like a personal journal, there is no "law" saying you can't share spells. If your friend casts the spell and it doesn't work, that probably has something to do with herself and how she casted it. If the spell seems less successful, it could also have to do with the time, day, and month that you cast the spell in.
But no, sharing your spell will not ruin it or "break" it. You might just simply prefer not to just becuase you like to keep your work to yourself.
In my experience is ,if you feel like that
Maybe some of spirits( ancestor,or guider)
That guide you don't want you to leak their spell
Otherwise ,they will go from you
So they give feelings ,to you like that
Try to ask your spirit guide ,about this
This is just one of many possibilities,as I think it maybe happen
Both good points. I agree about sharing spells and passing them on in the right circumstances. Its more that im not sure if I should tell my friend the outcome of a spell I did as I felt like the power of it would be weakened somehow and the outcome of the spell could be taken away. I will ask my spirit guide, its been a while since I practiced so im abit out of touch. I feel like my spell worked so well because I havent "asked for anything" for such a long time!

Different people feel differently about spell work, I personally never tell anyone the result of a spell, I have always felt uncomfortable speaking about the positive result to someone because I almost feel as though it could be removed again, this is mainly my superstitious mind though.
While there are others who actively cast spells as groups and share their spellcasting experiences.
I don't think the spell will "break" or suddenly stop working if you tell someone else, but I think that if you are worried, the worry itself could make you feel differently about the spell aferwards and could make you concerned that you have ruined it.
It's all about personal preferance, your casting and ritual style will be different from others, and what you do with the information is completely personal too, if you don't feel comfortable telling others, maybe wait a while or simply don't tell anyone.
Thats the way I feel, slightly superstitious. You are right, I ciuld just nit tell her, I know she woul love to know about it but its probably not worth the risk of then worrying about it and then having a self fulfilling prophesy situation.

well if the spell has worked you shouldn't worry about it breaking or backfiring. spells bring a desired change into your life. if you cast a spell to get a job, and you get a job, the spell has worked and is therefore complete. you won't lose the job simply because you told a friend. [you would lose the job if you slacked off and stopped trying]
personally i feel some things should be kept personal. it's fine to help and give advice, even brag/joke about things that happened. spells while they're still working their mojo, i would just leave it with 'i'm working on it' just because unless you're wanting to scare someone [i cast a spell on you hee-hee-hee] there's no reason to talk about it. especially if you worry it could undo the working in some way.
however, if your friends curious, you could tell her about a successful spell you cast. perhaps a joke or two to relax her [so many great pagan jokes out there, especially about magick.] all new witches worry one toe out of line and it's doom, just relax, if you don't feel comfortable talking about something, don't, simple as that.
