Black Dog.

Around a year ago, I was getting back from a night showing of a movie. Upon arrival at the, I went to the back to grab my things from the trunk, and I saw a shadow in the shape of a dog. Normally, when I see a shadow, its an illusion. A trick. But this thing didn't dissipate, it seemed solid, and moving, ready to attack me. I froze, and couldn't speak for an hour afterward. Is this a sign of some sort? Also, is this the right category for such a thread?

In shadow magic, there is a part that shadows could manifest to certain things, depending on the situation. It is possible that the shadow you saw was an manifestation of your fear to something, considering shadow magic is based on negative energy. When I say they can manifest I dont mean they take a physical solid form, but it can often be like that to those who see it. Fear is a powerful negative emotion after all. In your case it might be some sort of fear from past. Were you ever afraid of dogs and that they could attack you?

Historically, images or apparitions of a black dog figure have been seen as an omen of death, due to it being associated with the hell hound. However, considering that this event was a year ago and it at least appears you are still alive, it is safe to rule out such a dire warning. ^_^

Though Just as it is in Tarot and other circles, it is safe to say that death most likely means change or transition. Death of the old in favor of something new. So it could be safe to assume that likewise the appearance of a black hound can mean there is going to be a period of change in your life, where you have opportunities to make choices in your life. Maybe take some time to look back on the period when you saw the shadow, and compare it with some of the events going on in your life. Was it a period of confusion or stress, where things around you seemed to be changing a lot?

Such periods usually feel hectic and crazy, and can be stressful because you are being spun around in several directions with no real guidance in what choices to make when. But if you do your best to ride atop the wave of chaos instead of trying to swim against it (Yes, that was a bit of a surfing reference there LOL!) you have a good chance of making changes for the better. Just keep your eyes open and try to manage the stress so you can treat what looks like adversity as opportunity.

I don't want to make this post too long but I do know that black female dogs are associated with the goddess Hecate. But since you have not said if you could tell the gender of the dog I can't tell you if this dog was from Hecate. Can you say what happened to the dog afterwards? Like someone else has said it could be a sign of death but since your still alive that's not what this one means. It could be shadow magic, I've used it before and found that if I was afraid then what I was afraid of would appear, not physically but still it was scary. perhaps this is something that you did?

I've honestly never been afraid of much anything other than this.

Human consciousness is an interesting thing. You might be afraid of something and not be aware of it. I have read that some people get temporary amnesia from facing what they are afraid off. Sometimes even forgetting completely what happened. However it could also be connected to trauma you suffered while you were just a baby.
