Personally I see solo or individual study to be the best method, you can then learn from a whole variety of resources with a variety of beliefs and so you can pick and choose what you wish to learn, believe and study further.

Learning with a tutor, although possibly quicker, means that you are immediately taking on their personal beliefs, without the ability to develop your own. You may also be limited to studying only what they themselves have learned and so have a much narrower range of information and topics.

All that being said I am sure many others will have different opinions to myself.

I think there are likely pros and cons to both. However, I tend to agree with the comment above and personally recommend learning solo (at least to begin with) so you can learn from a wide array of perspectives.

The best way to start learning magic is to understand what it is and what it can do realistically. It's really not the sort of thing you see in Dragon Ball nor is it about fighting evil bad guys.on such a scale. It's not flashy martial arts. Nor is it being able to move things with your mind - telekinesis is impossible and anyone who claims otherwise is fooling themselves or flat out lying.

Once you find out what magic is and what you want to do with it, then you should worry about where you learn it.
