Inflicting Pain for help

I was watching a documentary on different types of magick. It started to talk about voodoo and how if you want a spell to work some people inflict pain onthemselves. Such as fasting,eating hot peppers. They believe that this gets the spirits attention becaues they hate seeing people in pain and makes them want to help with the will you want to bring fourth.

Now I'm not saying I want to do this. But I found it fascinating. Has anyone heard of anyone doing this? what were the results if so?

Those who inflict pain on themselves typically practice voodoo, as you mentioned. It's a way to get their attention yes, but they find power in suffering, and some practitioners of voodoo believe that the spirits will only offer help to those in pain because it shows that they are serious. It's like the person giving a sacrifice, tribute, or a way of payment.

Other practitioners outside of voodoo may do this to get their energy flowing, but I personally believe that it would be less effective, at least with what I practice (I'm not saying it won't work for everybody, but rather on a personal level),it would dampen high vibrational energies that you give off, and decrease the chance of a spell working.

But as I mentioned, what may not work for me may work for someone else. I'm definitely not saying that my way is the right way.

In some traditions, pain is used to alter the state of mind, almost as a sort of meditation. I do not recommend this without gaining some understanding on the matter first, and approaching with extreme caution.
