What's with all the 666s like shouldn't we stop wanting to be connected with the devil I mean ya sometimes but not constantly no I'm not being a god lover because I'm an Egyptian deities freak
Some people do feel a connection to Satan, either from a philosophical or theological standpoint. People who feel a connection to Satan have a reason to use symbolism that is associated with the Devil.
To shed some light on why people may choose to use the number 666 (Quick disclaimer: I am neither a Satanist nor a Christian, so if I get something wrong, feel free to correct me):
The number 666 is mentioned in Revelations 13:18: "This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666." (From the New International Version on biblica.com.)
According to biblestudy.org, 666 represents the influence that Satan has on man, and man's imperfection compared to God. If 666 represents Satan's influence on man, I can understand why someone who feels connected to or worships Satan would want to identify with that number.
From a philosophical standpoint (and this is all personal speculation, so feel free to disregard this), I could see the usage of 666 by atheistic Satanists being a declaration of personal power. Since it represents the influence of sin on man, I could see it being a statement: "I accept the things that are viewed as sinful, and I don't wish to reject these things." Also, from my understanding, many atheistic Satanists focus on individual power (the power of themself, a human being). If 666 is the number of a man, and one is focusing on the power of a man, it makes sense to use the number 666.
Again, I am not a Satanist or a Christian. I respect both Satanism and Christianity, but I am far from an expert on either, so as I stated, feel free to correct any misinformation.
Figuring out the point or meaning to 666 is like trying to actually tell why the Reimann Zeta function actually works and how it works. That's the million dollar question. Literally.
Not to dock on satanists or anyone that even follows a luciferian path but it's a convoluted subject to break it down. Devil meaning chieftain of evil and in some use Satan and yet describes multiple entities of "evil" nature including but not limited to Satan. Satan having a few meanings from hebrew translation: adversary, to oppose, and to question. Omitting the latter, we have adversary. Just adversary.
Who's adversary? Who is the adversary? People say Lucifer. Nae. That's improper to say lucifer. Lucifer coming from the Hebrew language means morning star or day star. The bible refers to lucifer as Lucifer in proper name because the word was lost for understanding to translate from Hebrew to Greek and Roman and was not translated and by lack of understanding was also placed as a proper name versus a description proper.
In context biblically we see morning star used even in regard to Jesus. Depending on your translation you could even read where Joshua of Hebrews book is translated to Roman language as Jesus. But i digress.
Looking at the times when the scriptures were written the term lucifer meaning morning star could be merely metaphorical and not actually referencing to Satan or Christ in some texts, but could actually be referencing to the babylonians and specifically the Babylonian king. This by way that throughout scripture there are plenty of allusions and prophecies to the fall of babylon
In any case we now go back to the focus of the point 666 and ties to Satan. Revelations is a lot of metaphor. The beast rising from the sea that the harlot stand by is a metaphor on it's own and is often thought to refer to a geographical location. The beast itself referenced in rev 13:18 has a number and the number is of man. Making the beast of man. Placing the beast as being an essence or part of man. Metaphor for our actions and deeds? Even in this context what actions would be beastly enough to practically be demonized so? These action say based on our very nature would make our very state of being a beast be default.
But here we see the perspective of moral values of the individuals speaking. What you may define as a beast nature i may not. So with that who is the devil and by extent who is satan? More specifically your personal satan. Your satan or your adversary may be different than the nondescript satan written biblically. And before saying satan is Lucifer please keep in mind Lucifer is a mistranslation of lucfer or morning star that references satan by cross reference.
So if you can answer the million dollar question and can answer who your satan is then you can tell us why you would identify the two together and why you would use the symbol and work with your own adversary on a personal level to even worship.
(The atheist satanists i feel have it very accurate. Belief in the power of one's own self. In short.)
